This volume is a landmark contribution to the botanical documentation of one of the most diverse and ecologically significant plant families in West Bengal. It fills a long-standing gap in the floristic literature, moving far beyond simple species lists to provide an in-depth analysis of taxonomy, diversity, phytogeographical patterns, and economic value. The study records 276 species, 1 subspecies, and 8 varieties of Asteraceae belonging to 124 genera under 19 tribes, representing a substantial expansion over earlier works such as Bengal Plants (Prain, 1903) and Flora of West Bengal Vol. III (Garg, 2016). This achievement is the result of meticulous literature review, extensive herbarium consultations, and systematic field explorations across varied habitats of the state. A distinctive feature of this work is its integrated approach, combining: Taxonomic detail clear descriptions, updated nomenclature, and classification. Phytogeographical analysis tracing the distribution and affinities of West Bengal's Asteraceae in a global and regional context. Conservation insights identification of endemic and RET (Rare, Endangered, and Threatened) species. Economic and ethnobotanical potential highlighting medicinal, ornamental, and other utilitarian values. Enhanced with well-organised tables, informative figures, and a clear presentation style, this book serves as a ready reference for researchers, floristic workers, horticulturists, ethnobotanists, conservationists, students, and plant enthusiasts. It stands as both a valuable addition to Indian botanical literature and an inspiration for future research, conservation, and sustainable utilisation of West Bengal's rich plant heritage.
