Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Edna Nadean wasn't thinking about her childhood when she took the job as director of the new alternative school in a rural Kansas town. A teaching certificate and Masters of Education opened the door to the opportunity. It was her upbringing that told her how to see it through. Growing up Edna learned much about what not-to-do from her mother. Edna worked to "break family scripts" and redefine the meaning of "Mother" in her family in a new less-dysfunctional image. Thanks to this effort Edna Nadean not only improved her own family, but influenced many more students and their families. During her tenure in charge of the Public Learning Place Edna often felt she was providing the only parenting some students received. Edna's story reminds us of the power of motherhood, not just to a family, but to a community. This item is printed on demand. Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The Girl Who Cried "Wolf!" is the heroic story of Nancy Jensen's journey through mental illness to recovery. Raised in small-town Colorado Nancy learned early to depend on church support. A challenging family life combined with further challenges in school left her searching for God and family elsewhere. Her search led her to Newton, Kansas, where she found a home first in a communal church before spending just over a year at Kaufman House. Kaufman House was supposed to be a great and progressive place for mentally ill. It was not. When she tried to blow the whistle, she found that no one believed her. She was the girl who cried "Wolf!" Almost 20 years later Arlan and Linda Kaufman were taken to trial. With the help of Nancy's testimony the federal government found both guilty. Since then Nancy has worked to pass a law preventing such oversight in the future, received the prestigious Voice Award, and is currently a member of the Sedgwick County Mental Health Advisory Board. After a lifetime of mental illness she has taken control of her treatment including eliminating medications and dropping-off government support in order to work full-time. Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Dogmatism has been studied for over fifty years and has been linked to intolerance, ego-centrism, and an unwillingness or inability to understand opposing viewpoints. Moral conviction derives from a separate literature base, but like dogmatism, has been linked to intolerance. An on-line survey measured dogmatism, moral conviction and whether participants would vote yes or no for legal gay marriage in Kansas and yes or no for the mandated teaching of creationism in Kansas public schools. It was hypothesized that dogmatism, moral conviction, and consideration of the opposition viewpoint would discriminate voting on both issues. Support for both hypotheses was found. For both issues participants scoring higher in measures of dogmatism and moral conviction also gave less consideration to the opposition view in deciding how to vote. This research also established correlations between moral conviction and dogmatism. People who are particularly dogmatic and also consider a given issue moral in nature seem to be less likely to consider other viewpoints even in decisions that would impact those others, which contributes to injustice. 104 pp. Englisch.
