A request to NAVSEA went unanswered for a year before this item was offered for sale. Ships husbandry or ship husbandry is all aspects of maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep of the hull, rigging, and equipment of a ship. The term is used in both naval and merchant shipping, but naval vessel husbandry may also be used for specific reference to naval vessels. Underwater ships husbandry can be financially advantageous when it eliminates the need for dry-dock repairs or extends the interval between dry-dockings, and reduces the time a ship is required to stay in dry-dock. Weld surfaces are prepared by cleaning with scrapers, chipping hammers or hand-held brushes, and pneumatic or hydraulic grinding tools. This work serves as a guide/reference for those engaged in underwater ship husbandry. NAVSEA 00C5 has proven that Underwater Ship Husbandry (UWSH) saves money. It often eliminates the need for drydock repairs and minimizes the amount of ship time spent in dry dock. NAVSEA's Underwater Ship Husbandry Division (UWSH) is chartered to develop techniques, procedures, and equipment to perform ship repairs waterborne. The Division is responsible as program director, technical authority, acquisition manager, and life cycle manager for the Navy UWSH Program. The Objectives of the UWSH Program are to: reduce maintenance costs, improve fleet readiness and influence ship design. By preventing or reducing drydockings, the ship repair process becomes streamlined and cost effective. By providing the UWSH diver with tools, procedures and technical support to accomplish various underwater repairs, fleet readiness and self-sufficiency are increased. Participation in the ship design process provides the opportunity to ensure a ship is "diver" friendly and easily repaired underwater. Presumed First Edition, First printing thus.

Aggiungi al carrelloWraps. Condizione: Very good. This outreach document reflects the research priorities/interests of the United States Air Force in the post-Vietnam War era and before the commencement of several decades of combat activities in the Middle East. At the time this document was issued the Commander was Col. James E. Baker and the Vice Commander was Col. Richard H. Hartke. AFOSR has funded more than 60 years of critical basic research efforts for the Air Force. Many of the technological breakthroughs enjoyed by millions today, such as lasers, GPS, and the computer mouse trace their scientific roots to research first funded by AFOSR and many others can be found in all of today's modern aircraft and weapons systems, including the F-117 stealth fighter, B-2 bomber, C-17 airlifter and the F-22 fighter. The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), located in Arlington, Va., continues to expand the horizon of scientific knowledge through its leadership and management of the Air Force's basic research program. As a vital component of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), AFOSR's mission is to discover, shape, and champion basic science that profoundly impacts the future Air Force. AFOSR invests in long-term, broad-based research into aerospace-related science and engineering. To accomplish this, AFOSR has formed a strong, productive alliance with other government agencies, industry and the academic community. About 70 percent of the research is conducted in academia and industry and the remaining 30 percent is conducted within AFRL. AFOSR's investment in basic research programs is distributed to about 230 academic institutions, 230 contracts with industry and more than 230 internal AFRL research efforts. With a staff of 200 scientists, engineers and administrators in Arlington, Va., and foreign technology offices in Santiago, London and Tokyo, AFOSR is charged with maintaining the technological superiority of the Air Force. Each year AFOSR selects, sponsors and manages revolutionary basic research relevant to Air Force needs. The focus of AFOSR is on research areas that offer significant and comprehensive benefits to our national warfighting and peacekeeping capabilities. These areas are organized and managed in scientific directorates. Presumed first edition/first printing thus.

This was prepared by the Professional Development Center SEA 90LD. This is a fascinating snapshot in time illuminating military career development activities for civilian employees. This is representative of the period between the end of the Vietnam War and the First Persian Gulf War. From Wikipedia: "The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is the largest of the U.S. Navy's five "systems commands, " or materiel (not to be confused with "material") organizations. NAVSEA consists of four shipyards, nine "warfare centers" (two undersea and seven surface), four major shipbuilding locations and the NAVSEA headquarters, located at the Washington Navy Yard, in Washington D.C. NAVSEA's primary objective is to engineer, build and support the U.S. Navy's fleet of ships and combat systems. NAVSEA accounts for nearly one-fifth of the Navy's budget, with more than 100 acquisition programs under its oversight. The Naval Sea Systems Command was established on 1 July 1974 with the merger of the Naval Ship Systems Command with the Naval Ordnance Systems Command. The Naval Ship Systems Command was established in 1966 replacing the Navy's Bureau of Ships (BuShips). Established in 1940, BuShips succeeded the Bureau of Construction and Repair, which had been responsible for ship design and construction, and the Bureau of Engineering, which had been responsible for propulsion systems."
