Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. This 8.75 x 11.25 inch, 128 page hardcover book with jacket is the first printing of the title as noted on the copyright page. The book is in fine condition in a fine dust jacket. The jacket has been priced clipped. The book itself has the white cloth covers as new, showing no handling wear or smudging. There apparently was a previous owner's bookplate on the ffep but that was removed, leaving a clean outline and darkened imprint on the ffep, but no damage to the paper at all. Beyond that the book is as new. The book features a forward by noted Butte County historian John H. Nopel, and then the book features a text of outstanding coverage of the story of Butte County, California by the author, who was a newspaper man and author for decades in the area. The book contains many photographs and illustrations, some period photographs of the early days and others contemporary photos of Butte County. This book already has taken its place as an important regional history. 128 pages.

The covers of the book have some spots of rubbing and wear, The text pages are clean and bright. "Gandy dancer is a slang term used for early railroad workers in the United States, more formally referred to as "section hands", who laid and maintained railroad tracks in the years before the work was done by machines. The British equivalents of the term gandy dancer are "navvy" (from "navigator") , originally builders of canals or "inland navigations", for builders of railway lines, and "platelayer" for workers employed to inspect and maintain the track. In the Southwestern United States and Mexico, Mexican and Mexican-American track workers were colloquially "traqueros"." (from Wikipedia).
