Offering unique insight into the world of contemporary art, this book looks at four generations of artists, from the established to the newly emerged. Photographs of each of the artists, taken by Amanda Eliasch during 2002 in the artists' studios, are set alongside examples of their work. The text by Gemma de Cruz provides a brief overview of who the artists are, what they do and how their work and ideas fit into the art world at this time. This book draws attention to a particular selection of artists who together form a strong idea of what is happening now in contemporary art in London, featuring artists who are influential alongside those they have influenced. I suppose I became interested in art about ten years ago when I met Charles Saatchi at the Amanpuri Hotel in Thailand. I was sitting by the swimming pool and he was sitting with the film director David Puttnam. He asked me where I lived and I told him in Chester Square. "Well, introduce me to your husband because we need clever young people like him." So we became friends, but not within the art world. Johan was his "cleaner," as he called him, he'd clean up his mess and he cleaned up the Saatchi deal between the old and new companies. I really appreciated Charles's help recently as he assisted me with my photographic shows of nudes. The last one he came to he said, "Oh, definitely, definitely commercial, stick to 1930s Paris." I had been working with Martin Maloney and doing some colour photographs, and Martin said, "Keep on with them." Charles said, "If you keep on with them you'd better go into magazines." So I went to New York and took my book round and I got a call back from Visionaire. I then telephoned Katy Barker who was the only photographic agent I knew and asked her advice. She told me that I couldn't show nudes and that I should do some fashion photographs. So I was introduced to a girl named Rushka Bergman who helped me take the correct photographs for my book. I showed them to the photographer Michel Comte, who took me to Italian Vogue. I then did one or two jobs for Franca, including the Kartell Catalogue, which many photographers did. It showed artists in their chairs. She liked the pictures and suggested I do a book on artists in their studios. I asked for a writer, and Martin suggested Gemma de Cruz, and we drew up a list together. The list in the book is quite varied: It is Young British Artists and a few of the Establishment who actually made the young artists or helped to make them. I liked the older guys because I think as a cu.

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 56 pages. Published in 2014. Artist Book. Collection of color photographs of kids. One of the most beautiful art photography books of our time. Limited Slipcased Edition of 100 numbered and signed copies. Should not be confused with the regular trade edition, which was published simultaneously with it. The Limited Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Tierney Gearon and Editore Damiani: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial blue cloth boards with titles and design on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs and text by Tierney Gearon. Original 10 X 7 inch color print laid into its own sleeve. Red cloth slipcase with design embossed on one side. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Bologna, Italy by Editore Damiani to the highest standards. In glossy pictorial DJ with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents, in its collectible Limited Edition format, Tierney Gearon's "Alphabet Book". Her most enchanting and triumphant creation thus far, a fantasy-inspired re-imagination of the classic children's alphabet book. "Los Angeles photographer Tierney Gearon has gained critical acclaim for her intense, colorful photographs that feature her children as subjects. Her debut in 2001 was quite controversial, when two nude photographs of her sons were included in the 'I Am A Camera' Exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery London. Her new Artist Book takes the form of a children's alphabet book: Each letter of the Roman alphabet is illustrated with a photograph that animates the letter. A is for 'Airplane Adventure', B is for 'Bear Boy', C is for 'Clown Car', and so, delightfully, on. At once an inventive photobook and an enchanting 'take' on the children's alphabet book, this volume is Gearon's most charming work to date" (Publisher's blurb). Gearon has more in common with the equally radiant and optimistic imagery of Cig Harvey than she does with Sally Mann, whose darker vision of childhood and family has been immensely influential. Gearon and Harvey, both much younger women photographers themselves, indirectly acknowledge Mann's looming presence (as it were) by moving in the exact opposite direction. Their ineffably beautiful work has been rewarded with enormous and well-deserved success. An absolute "must-have" title for Tierney Gearon collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Slipcased Edition of 200 numbered and signed copies, indicated/numbered as such on the accompanying color print. It is very prominently and beautifully signed in pink pen-marker on the title page by Tierney Gearon. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. It comes with a 10 X 7 inch original color print that is very prominently and beautifully numbered and signed in matching pink pen-marker on verso by the artist/photographer. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. This is one of few copies of the Limited Slipcased Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online command as much as $900, or double the publisher's original list price. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. 27 color plates, 1 original color print. One of the most brilliant American photographers of our time. A flawless collectible copy. Hardcover with dustjacket.156 pages, 73 colour plates. 325 x 268 mm. Daddy, where are you? brings together over 70 photographs by Tierney Gearon. Set mainly in and around her mother's home, the ostensible subject of Gearon's ongoing series is the interaction between Gearon, her children and mother. Yet Gearon's beautiful but strikingly raw photographs also narrate a story with a more expansive emotional force. It tells of the closeness as well as the profound distance between our loved ones and us. It is this psychological tension as well as her direct confrontation with one of photography's enduring themes that distinguishes her from her contemporaries. Daddy, Where Are You? combines revealing tableaux, garnered from Gearon's observations of family outings and routines, with a sequence of portraits of her mother. Together they capture the impossibility of truly understanding the full nature of those we love. Tierney Gearon was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1963 and currently lives and works in Santa Monica, California. Her photographs of her family figured prominently in the exhibition "I am a Camera" at the Saatchi Gallery in London during Spring 2001.**********Steidl, Göttingen. 2007. Erstausgabe.
