Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores Fort Tryon Park's evolution from Dutch colonial land to verdant urban haven for New Yorkers. The author, an experienced landscape historian, delves into the park's Revolutionary War significance and its role as the site of a major battle. Landscape architects Olmsted Brothers' masterful redesign of the park in the 1930s is examined along with the ecological diversity found throughout. This book complements the history of the park with a rich description of its plant life, with contributions from leading botanists. These insights combine to present Fort Tryon Park as a unique natural and historical refuge in the heart of Manhattan. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is a quite uncommon issue of Mountain Magazine, which was published from 1927 to 1931 and edited by Raymond Torrey. It was a product of the Associated Outdoor Clubs of America and for several years in partnership with the Adirondack Mountain Club. This particular issue has some outstanding articles: "Trails in the Rockies" by Richard Toll, Superintendent of the Rocky Mountain National Park; "the Appalachian Trail Grows", by H.C. Anderson of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. It is illustrated by a map showing progress of the trail from the Blue Ridge to Pennsylvania; "Will Captain Odell Climb Everest" which includes a summary of The Epic of Mount Everest, by Younghusband; various cclub reports; and "High Spots" which was the official publication of the Adirondack Mountain Club and for about two years was published in this magazine rather than as a separate publication. This issue of High Spots contains opening comments by the new President Pirie MacDonald who was instrumental in changing the focus of the club from purely recreation to conservation. There is also an address by the outgoing president John Myers. Rules and prices for ADK's Johns Brook Lodge ($1.00 a night for members) with details on the progress of new trails in the high peaks. Remarkably uncommon and without faults except for some give at the staples, tears along the spine, and a chip or two. Advertisements as well. Volume VI, No. 4, pages 81-104. Magazine is 9 and 7/8 inches by 7 and 3/8 inches.
