Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. As new condition bluish/lime green polished cloth oversized boards with gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes Introduction; Index and Acknowledgments. Profusely illustrated with color ph…otographs, 40 course maps and drawings (317 illustrations in full color). "Packed with information and designed for quick reference, Golfwatching is a comprehensive guide to competitive golf worldwide. Unlike any other book available, it covers courses, players, and events all over the globe - every PGA Tour event, all four major championships, the Ryder Cup, plus dozens of tournaments of the LPGA, Senior PGA Tour, and international venues. It is also the first book to cover golf's "second season" - the many made-for-television events at the end of the year. Written by George Peper.its chapters on the 81 most significant events are divided into six section for easy reference. The chapters in each section are organized in calendar order. Hundreds of course and competition photos made by the staff photographers of the PGA Tour and by the finest golf photographers in the world enhance the text. Each chapter includes "What to Watch For," and enjoyable and informative collection of facts, anecdotes, and inside tips for viewers. Most chapters have a special TV holes guide: where to expect birdies and bogeys down the stretch. Each of the first 45 chapters also offers the following features: "Local Knowledge: useful instruction relevant to the course, illustrated by famed golf artist Jim McQueen; Hole-by-hole depictions of 40 courses, painted by GOLF Magazine art director Ron Ramsey, plus complete yardages, ratings, and slope indices; Exclusive rankings: Using a unique formula, GOLF Magazine's statistical expert, David Barrett, ranks each tournament on the PGA Tour according to the difficulty of its course and the prestige of winning the event; "Startling Statistics," colorfully illustrated by Los Angeles Times computer graphicist Trevor Johnston; "Practical Matters": Where to write for tickets; how to get to play the tournament course; how to get into the pro-am, etc. Golfwatching is the ideal armchair reference. It's a lighthearted mix of anecdotes, facts, graphic art, and exquisite photography that showcases all the major golf tournaments and will enhance the viewing pleasure of golf fans everywhere." - from the inner front jacket flap. Johnson, John, PGA Tour Staff Photographers, et al (illustratore).

Thick oblong 4to 12.5 x 9.75 x 2 in. [50 pp (unpaginated).], on thick paper stock. With 42 albumen photographs, sized from 4 x 6 in. to 9 x 11.5 in., many w/ photographer's imprint, or captions w/in the negative at lower fore-edge, all carefully mounted, a few w/ annotated captions in ink MS below. Recent full black calf over or…iginal beveled boards, white silk moire endpapers, stationer's label for Woolfield & Co., Glasgow on rear pastedown at corner, a.e.g. (occasional lifting, a couple images w/ minor over-exposure, occasional slight closed tears), still a VG exemplar. This splendid Victorian Grand Tour album preserves 42 albumen photographs some a coterie of the best souvenir landscape and portrait photographers at the end of the 19th-Century, including Elizabeth Pulman, James Valentine, G.W. Wilson, and Samuel Poulton, Poulton's Series. The album opens with a photo of the Osbourne House, which was the former royal residence on the Isle of Wight, constructed between 1845-1851 for Queen Victoria and Prince Philip; views Carlsbrooke Castle, St. Thomas Church in Portsmouth, St. Boniface Old Church rebuilt in the 11th Century, and the Luccombe Chine, scenic attraction south of the Village of Luccombe, and the Shanklin Shine - oldest tourist attraction on Wight. Other photos include the South Parade Pier built originally 1875-1878 and designed by G. Rale as passenger ferry terminal, The Pier Southsea, Balmoral Castle from the river, Balmoral from the NW, two views of Inverness, the Waterfall in Glen Ross; the Union Chain Bridge spanning the River Tweed; and the HMS St. Vincent, 120-gun warship launched in 1815 lying at anchor in Portsmouth. The unidentified well-to-do family appear to have traveled to New Zealand around 1880, stopped over at Madeira, with very large unidentified photograph featuring a cart & donkey, with giant palm trees, and subsequently sailed onto Fiji. Two of the albumen images here capture a Fijian Village scene, as well as street scene in Siwa, Fiji. Photos by Valentine include those of Auckland Harbour and Ragitoto from Remuera, New Zealand, as well as Lower Queen Street Scene, and Lake Takapuna looking South. Interior and exterior shots of the Auckland Hospital are included, with one demarcated as "Pulman Photo 153," the Auckland Hospital on the hill, Bowling Club in the foreground, and others. Elizabeth PUlman (1836-1900) is regarded as the first professional woman photographer in New Zealand, who took over her husband George Pulman's business and darkroom following his death in 1871. Of additional interest is the large albumen photograph of an mixed-race photo of a mining crew, featuring South Asian, along with Euro-caucasian counterparts standing beneath the towering structure behind. Two additional harbour photos are mounted, as well as two additional images of a very well-dressed wedding party, with bride and bridal party carefully posed.
