Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. 1st Edition, Book Club Edition. First American Edition, First Printing. Gold of the Gods (1973), authored by Erich von Däniken and translated by Michael Heron, is a controversial work that delves into the author's theory of ancient extraterrestrial influences on Earth. Building upon the ideas presented in his previous book, Chariots of the Gods?, von Däniken explores various archaeological sites and artifacts, proposing that they are evidence of advanced technology and extraterrestrial visitation in ancient times. A central focus of the book is the Cueva de los Tayos, a cave system in Ecuador. Von Däniken recounts an expedition, led by Hungarian-born Argentine explorer Juan Moricz, into the cave, where they reportedly discovered man-made tunnels filled with gold, strange statues, and a library containing metal tablets inscribed with hieroglyphs. These findings, according to von Däniken, suggest the existence of an ancient civilization with advanced knowledge, possibly aided by extraterrestrial beings. The book also examines other global sites, including Easter Island and Nan Madol in Micronesia, to support the hypothesis of ancient astronauts. Von Däniken's narrative intertwines these locations with the concept of a "Battle of the Gods," suggesting that the remnants of these civilizations are the aftermath of intergalactic conflicts.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Jacket by Brian Paine (illustratore). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, some yellowing to extremities and spine, not price clipped (£2.20), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 210pp. The third book by Swiss author and charlatan Erich von Daniken on the evidence for the influence of ancient alien visitors on human civilisation. In 'The Gold of the Gods', Daniken wrote of being guided through artificial tunnels in a cave under Ecuador, Cueva de los Tayos, containing gold, strange statues and a library with metal tablets, which he considered to be evidence of ancient space visitors. The man who he said showed him these tunnels, Juan Moricz, told 'Der Spiegel' that Daniken's descriptions came from a long conversation and that the photos in the book had been fiddled. Daniken told Playboy that although he had seen the library and other places he had described, he had fabricated some of the events to add interest to his book. Later in 1978 he said that he had never been in the cave pictured in his book but in a 'side entrance', and that he had fabricated the whole descent into the cave. A geologist examined the area and found no cave systems. Daniken also wrote about a collection of gold objects held by local priest Father Crespi, who had special permission from the Vatican to do archaeological research, but an archeologist reported to 'Der Spiegel' that, while there were some gold pieces, many were just local imitations for tourists, and that Crespi has difficulty distinguishing brass from gold.
