This book is being sold out of a private collection where it has been held since it was purchased at the time of its publication. G/VG in original forest green cloth boards. Title and author in gilt on spine with small design of fawn centered on front, also in gilt. Boards are flat, binding is still sound, straight and square, although there are occasional cracks at the top edges between the signatures. Bumping to corners, particularly bottom corners which have curled in. Front bottom corner shows fraying of the cloth at tip of corner. Moderate rubbing to boards and edges with some minor spotting. Cloth is crimped at head and toe of spine and worn but does not appear to be torn. There is a yellow top stain. Interior pages are complete, intact and unmarked with some light foxing to the edges but still remarkably clear and bright. Gutters are still intact with pictorial end papers portraying a forest scene in green and orange. The FE shows a neatly penned signature of previous owner dated the year of publication. There is a closed tear at the upper right corner of page 81/82, possibly occurred at printing. There are 26 B&W illustrations, including the frontispiece, with a Foreword by John Galsworthy.
