Condizione libro: Condizione esemplare: Chaïm Soutine (Smilavichi, 13 gennaio 1893 - Parigi, 9 agosto 1943) è stato un pittore lituano naturalizzato francese. Dopo aver studiato prima a Minsk e successivamente a Vilnius, si trasferì a Parigi, dove conobbe alcuni degli artisti più importanti del tempo, tra cui Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger e Amedeo Modigliani. Soutine non aderì mai ufficialmente a nessuna corrente artistica, anche se per l'uso appassionato di colori vividi viene considerato uno dei più ragguardevoli rappresentanti dell'espressionismo, elaborato secondo una visione ed una tecnica pittorica altamente personali. Le sue opere risentono degli anni difficili della sua infanzia, caratterizzata da esperienze dolorose in una famiglia povera, numerosa e socialmente emarginata in quanto ebrea. Spesso depresso ed insoddisfatto, Soutine distrusse molte sue opere nei periodi di crisi psicologica. Questa pregiata pubblicazione ripercorre il percorso artistico di Soutine con 478 belle riproduzioni a colori e 133 fotografie in b/n, corredate da accurate didascalie esplicative. 'Der Litauer Chaim Soutine ging 1913 als Zwanzigjaehriger nach Paris, um die Bilder in den dortigen Museen und Galerien zu studieren und um selbst Maler zu werden.
