Hardback. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition. This copy is in very good unmarked condition bound in tan cloth covered boards with blue titling to the spine. The head of the spine is torn and frayed and there is some creasing to some of the page edges. The unclipped dustwrapper has sme edge wear and a large area of loss to the back panel so best described as good condition, it has now been covered in clear, removable, archival, protective film. Ordinarily I would not list a book in this condition but the contents and subject of this book is both revealing and important to aviation history. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. Major C. C. Turner was the first professional journalist to learn to fly, and he qualified for the Royal Aero Club Certificate in April 1911 (he is the holder of certificate number 70) Previously, in 1907-8, he had ballooning experience and took part in notable balloon voyages. In the 1914-18 first World War he was engaged chiefly in instructional duties. at one time in free ballooning and observation balloons, and at another in aeroplanes. He was a Lieutenant commander, R.N.V.R., attached Royal Naval Air Service, when the flying services were combined as the Royal Air Force, and in that service he held the rank of Major, the equivalent of Lieutenant Commander. Some time after the War new R.A.F. rank designations were introduced. This is the story of thirty six years of flying in some eighty types of aircraft. Ref JJJ 1.
