COMTE COLAUD : Claude Sylvestre Colaud, né à Briançon le 11 décembre 1754, mort à Paris le 3 décembre 1819, est un général français de la Révolution et de l'Empire. Il passe les premières années de son enfance en Corse, où son père avait transporté son commerce…. Après avoir fait ses études au collège de La Ciotat, le jeune Colaud s'engage dans un régiment de dragons à l'âge de 17 ans. Il est lieutenant au régiment des chasseurs d'Alsace au commencement de la Révolution française. Après avoir obtenu le grade de capitaine en 1792, Kellermann, qui apprécie déjà ses brillantes dispositions pour la carrière des armes, le prend auprès de lui comme aide de camp. Son premier exploit dans cette campagne lui vaut le grade de colonel du 20e Régiment de Chasseurs à Cheval. Lorsque les troupes de la coalition forcent le camp de Famars le 23 mai 1793, Colaud commande le corps des flanqueurs de gauche à l'abbaye d'Haumont. Il court de grands périls dans cette journée ; pressé, enveloppé par les ennemis, il est sommé plusieurs fois de se rendre. Il ne répond à cette sommation que par un redoublement de valeur, parvient à couvrir la retraite de l'armée, et effectue paisiblement la sienne sur Bouchain (Nord). Le général Lamarche se plait à rendre hommage à ses talents, à sa rare intrépidité, et avoue que le salut des troupes est dû à l'habileté de ses manoeuvres. En 1796, il se signale de nouveau à la bataille de Siegburg, livrée par le général Kléber. Le ministre lui écrit à cette occasion : « C'est à vos dispositions sages et promptement exécutées qu'on est redevable des succès obtenus à la bataille de Siegburg: le Directoire en est instruit, et vous en témoigne sa satisfaction particulière. - - - COMTE DE VALENCE : Jean-Baptiste Cyrus Adélaïde de Timbrune de Thiembronne, vicomte puis comte de Valence, dit Valence, né le 22 septembre 1757 à Agen, mort le 4 février 1822 à Paris, est un général français de la Révolution et de l'Empire. Le 3 juin 1784 il épouse à l'improviste la fille cadette de Mme de Genlis, Pulchérie de Genlis, pour masquer, dit-on, ses relations intimes avec Madame de Montesson. L'année suivante il est promu écuyer du duc d'Orléans et colonel du Régiment de Chartres dragons. Ses relations avec le duc d'Orléans et ses idées libérales lui valent d'être élu en 1789 député suppléant de la noblesse aux États généraux par la Ville de Paris. Il n'est pas appelé à siéger à l'Assemblée constituante. Il est nommé commandant du département de la Sarthe en 1790. La guerre entre l'Autriche et la France commence le 20 avril 1792. En mai il combat dans l'armée commandée par Nicolas Luckner. Il s'empare de Courtrai. Puis il est employé à l'armée de Charles-François Dumouriez, promu lieutenant-général le 20 août 1792; il assiste à la bataille de Valmy où il commande la réserve. Après la bataille de Jemmapes, il bat Beaulieu, s'empare de Dinant, de Charleroi et de Namur. Pendant l'hiver il propose au gouvernement un plan d'invasion des colonies anglaises. Il est envoyé en Belgique sur la demande de Dumouriez qui lui confie l'armée opposée au prince de Cobourg. Les avant-postes de cette armée placés sous les ordres du général Dampierre sont disséminés le long de la Roer. Mécontent de la marche de la politique intérieure, il donne sa démission. Un des courriers qu'il envoie à Beurnonville ayant été intercepté, des dépêches importantes (car il est le confident de Dumouriez) tombent entre les mains des agents du gouvernement. Un mandat d'arrêt est lancé contre lui, et la Convention ordonne par décret l'arrestation de toute sa famille. Il suit alors Dumouriez dans sa défection le 4 avril 1793, et se rend à Londres. Mais Pitt lui ordonne de quitter immédiatement l'Angleterre, aussi va-t-il chercher refuge en Amérique, puis revient en Europe à l'époque du Directoire et vit jusqu'à l'établissement du Consulat.

Sur l'établi, on peut voir différents objets de culte (calice, crosse), mais aussi des outils d'orfèvre. A l'arrière plan, un moine réalisant une soudure. Au premier plan : tabouret et enclume posé sur billot. D'une famille protestante originaire de l'Ardèche, Jean Chièze entre à l'école des Beaux-Arts de Lyon en 1916. Après avoir travaillé dans la décoration de tissus, il s'oriente vers l'enseignement, carrière qu'il poursuit durant 40 ans, jusqu'à sa retraite en 1963. Il a illustré 130 ouvrages et a collaboré à une centaine de publications. Les gravures sur bois y représentent environ 2000 estampes, les lithographies une vingtaine, les dessins et les cartons grattés environ 1400 images. De plus Jean Chièze a gravé sur bois 250 pièces isolées importantes et sur pierre quelques lithographies. Avec la Provence, la Corse, les Alpes, la Bretagne est une région pour laquelle l'artiste s'est découvert une véritable passion. Il fut subjugué lors de ses nombreux séjours (Ouessant, Sein, Molène, Audierne, Brest .) par la vie singulière des hommes en lutte contre les forces brutes de la nature. Attiré par Brest, Audierne et le Cap-Sizun, les îles de Sein et de Molène, il fit surtout, jusqu'en 1964, de nombreux séjours à Ouessant. Il en consigna les traditions et les moeurs dans le manuscrit des "Notes et documents graphiques sur Ouessant" (1958), et en transcrivit des aspects dans l'estampe ("Procession à Saint-Gildas d'Ouessant", 1954 ; "Proëlla à Ouessant", 1957 ; Dans le " bout ", 1961, etc.).
