Composed by Horatio Parker, 'The Shepherds' Vision' is a cantata, a piece of choral work, that sets biblical text to music. It is typical of cantatas of this era to use religious themes and tell an uplifting story with accessible language, and this follows that tradition. The text, by Alice C. Jennings, translates from the German of Franz van der Stucken and tells of the shepherds in the fields on that first Christmas night, visited by angels and then going on to Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus. The text enacts the biblical narrative for modern audiences in musical form. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
