Tri sachiste jsou zavrazdeni a detektiv-amater, take sachista hleda vraha. Autor, Vlastimil Hort ve svem uvodu pise, ze pribehy psal v dobe, kdy mu odebrali pas a nemohl hrat. Poutave psane detektivni pribehy s necekanymi rozuzlenimi, ktere potesi kazdeho sachistu i nesachistu. Prvni pribeh se odehrava na mezipasmovem turnaji v bulharskem Burgasu a behem turnaje dojde k vrazde. Ve druhem pribehu se rozehrava dej kolem velmistra Beduny s mnoha vedlejsimi pribehy postav z prazske kavarny U Novaku. Treti pribeh, a samozrejme vrazda, je zasazen na jednu z chat CSTV na pomezi s Polskem, kde se odehrava turnaj starych mistru. Predobrazem jedne z postav je Karel Opocensky. Na zaver knihy je nekolik bonusu pro sachisty: - partie Opocensky-Aljechin, ve ktere nas velmistr zvitezil, - dobova vzpominkou na samotnou kavarnu a tez na Olympiadu v roce 1931, ktera se v kavarne U Novaku odehravala.
