Reprint hardcover in aqua blue paper covered boards with black titles showing bumped/chipped spine ends and color loss lower tips, upper tips remain sharp. No names, tears or soil in the tight, crisp 142pp text. Un-clipped, un-priced, original dust wrapper shows surface color loss and two tiny repaired chips at head of spine. Rear panel of dj clean and complete. Wrapper displays well in new mylar. Pete's father owns the Double Circle ranch in Montana Territory where much of the land is open range in the public domain. From the top ranch hand Butter Jorgensen, Pete first hears of the mouse-gray stallion. Pete's father sends him out with 'Butter' to trail the wild horses who've chased off the D.C.s cattle and made themselves a home around Double Circle's best water hole and grazing lands. Pete wants to prove himself a good judge of horse flesh and check out the heard for any really good horses to bring back for the ranch. At first his eyes set on a big black stallion Pete names 'The Ebony Whip' but as the days go by, he notices a quiet gray stallion in with the mares who is smart and quick as a cat and turns his focus on watching and learning him.
