Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: VG-. Hayes, Walter (illustratore). First Edition First Printing. iBook No. 1 in the 6-book YA series that was only published 1913-1914 featuring the Meadow-Brook Girls, a group of five friends who, along with their guardian/companion, Miss Elting, have a series of "thrilling adventures" during their summer vacations that sometimes "test their courage & resourcefulness'' while they camp, hike, & sail. The girls have been described as similar to the Campfire Girls, who debuted around the same time, both reflecting a growing sense of greater independence for girls as the 20th century got underway. In 212 pages with frontispiece + 3 internal illustrations (unattributed), second DJ cover art by Walter Hayes. In the series second binding style, this 12mosmall octavo (5.00" x 7.50") 2mo has brown green cloth-over-boards ruled & lettered in black to front & spine, black image & badge with series name stamped to front in black. Orig. published by Altemus in 1913, this is the First Printing from Saalfield (First, thus). Condition is Near Fine: completely clean, binding strong & straight, pages heavily tanned & somewhat brittle, completely unmarked save for former owner's name & date (1934) in pencil to ffep. Just a hint of rubbing & corner bumping. The unclipped DJ is VG: colorful & bright, with mild-moderate rubbing to extremities, heaviest at corners & both ends of spine, which also show some short unclosed tears & chips; nicely protected by former owner in clear mylar cover. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends, & holidays ship very next business day.
