Black leather spine and brown cloth binding. viii+448, 49 small engraved text ills; top front endpaper has small erasable pencil inscrip. 'Secret Society No 2' and verso rear endpaper, in same hand I thnk, similar pencil inscrip.' Good bye old History/ Good bye,…which finished you, for me/ March 265h 1865' - make of all this what you will!, otherwise internally clean, tight and unmarked except for a thin stain to top outer corner from c. p.409 to end, progressively widening and extending across top margin and down outer margin to rear endpaper - this never affects text and is quite livable with, end gutters good; stippled brown cloth covers with gilt-lettered black cloth spine (a little rubbed with short split top back joint), this binding is as issued. Now uncommon in reasonable condition and bibliographically complex.
