Ex-libris Frederick Webb Hodge, with his bo…okplate on the front pastedown. Frederick Webb Hodge (1864-1956) was an prominent American editor, anthropologist, archaeologist, and historian. He served as editor of "American Anthropologist," 1898-1917 and worked at the Smithsonian Institution from 1901 to 1918, primarily at the Bureau of American Ethnology. Subsequently he became editor and assistant director at the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation, in New York City. In addition, Hodge participated in excavations at the Nacoochee Mound near Helen, Georgia, directed the excavations of the ruins of Hawikkuh, near Zuni Pueblo, during the period 1917-23, and was associated with Columbia University, Hemenway Southwestern Archaeological Expedition, and the U.S. Geological Survey. Photocopy of the text published in Mexico for Joseph Bernardo de Hogal. Portuguese Franciscan missionary Father Alonso de Benavides served as the director of the New Mexico missions from 1626 to 1629. He is known for his memorials, which comprise some of the principal sources for Southwest history.
