Illustrated throughout with photographs. This book is much more than a family story - it is a regional history and a great insight into Mennonite family values and lifestyles. Anna E. Murry (1889-1977) was born into a Methodist home in the Pequea area of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1912 she married Abram B. Hess (1886-1935), who was born into a Mennonite home, but was antagonistic toward the Mennonites. When Anna became a Christian, and Abe was not ready to join her, she had a choice to make. Should she join the Methodists or the Mennonites? She chose to become a Mennonite. Through tragedy, Abe's resistance to God was broken down, and he became a committed Christian. Follow Abe and Anna as they take five of Abe's nieces and nephews into their home after their mother left home. Later join Anna beside an open grave as Abe's body was lowered into the ground before any of their children were married. Still later, join her in a unique family setting, living in the same house with two of her sons and their families. Triumphant through joys and sorrows, Anna was faithful until death. Five Sections: The Early Years 1912 - 1931, The Children Come 1932 -1938, Anna and the Double Family 1938-1950, An Era of Changes 1950 -1969, and The Sunset Years 1970 - 1977. Contents in 28 Chapters: Married Life Begins, Anna Finds the Lord, Loaned for a Time-Victory in Jesus, The Time Between, Troubles At Uncle Amos's, The Children Come to Stay.
