No Binding. Condizione: Collectible-Near Fine (Near Fi. Original black and white photo postcard. Postcard has the copyright year of 1947. Postmarked August 10 [or 18], 1948. 5 1/2" x 3 1/2." Title printed at the bottom of the image. "Western Souvenirs" imprint, the copyright year of the postcard, and "506" are printed in the lower-right corner of the image. A green, one-cent 1938 George Washington stamp is tipped in on the back. Postcard is used. Postcard is very clean and intact except for a bump in the lower-right corner. A Near Fine copy. There is handwriting on the back in black ink. The writer addresses someone living in Portland, Oregon and talks about recent events such as how they visited the powerhouse of the dam and "didn't want to go" and met with family members or relatives. This postcard shows the Grand Coulee Dam, which is a concrete gravity dam situated on the Columbia River in Washington. The Coulee Dam is near the Grand Coulee, an ancient riverbed. Initial plans considered a low dam, supplying only hydroelectric power, but the final decision resulted in a high dam supplying both hydroelectric power and irrigation. The Coulee Dam was one of many projects that were part of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal, the Public Works Administration (PWA), and the Work Progress Administration (WPA). Construction of the dam began in 1933 and finished in 1942. The dam's reservoir is called Franklin D. Roosevelt Lake (or Lake Roosevelt).
