Dabei begegnen wir verschiedenen Wächtern: Der Angst vor der Wahrheit, dem Widerstand und dem Trotz, unter denen abwehrende Gefühle wie Neid, Hass, Eifersucht, Geiz, Gier und Herrschsucht liegen. Durch das Würdigen und reaktionslose Betrachten dieser Zustände, sterben wir ihnen schliesslich ab und gelangen zu den noch tieferliegenden abgewehrten Gefühlen von Schmerz, Verlassensein, Einsamkeit, Ohnmacht, Hilflosigkeit und Ausgeliefertsein. Das wiederum wahllose, ehrliche und exakte Beobachten dieser inneren Bewegungen wird uns schliesslich ankommen lassen im Allerinnersten. Mehr noch als der Selbsterkenntnis, über die er in seinen früheren Büchern schon viel geschrieben und zu der er mit seinem Schichtenmodell der menschlichen Psyche bereits komplexere Darstellungen und Theorien vorgelegt hatte, ist es eigentlich dieses Allerinnerste, dem Samuel Widmer "Vom Allerinnersten" widmete: Dem innersten Geheimnis, wie er es nannte. Er beschrieb es als facettenreichen Diamanten, in dem sich die vielfältigen Qualitäten des innersten Seins zeigen: Stille, Liebe, Wirklichkeit, Weisheit, Demut, Glück, Sensitivität, Gelassenheit, der Tod, Schönheit, Kargheit, Achtsamkeit, Klarheit und viele mehr. Dieses Allerinnerste könne nur im Alleinesein, in einer tiefen meditativen Erschliessung des Innern, gefunden werden: Die Möglichkeit, dass sich unser Wesen über alle Grenzen hinaus ausdehnt, dass wir für das Ganze erwachen, sich unser Herz und unser Kopf öffnen, um alles, den ganzen Kosmos, das Eine, die Liebe, die Stille in einem grossen Mitgefühl zu umfassen.
