Birdwell was a Hollywood publicist (Gone with the Wind, etc.) and writer. Otis Wiles was a Los Angeles Examiner writer, who died in 1948. Interesting story -- Willy Gay runs in the Olympic marathon, while the crowd shouts "Gay! Gay!".
