Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Ten-year-old Jerry Ronden is a walking nightmare who can make grown men cry. He sets off firecrackers in his parents bed, deploys stink bombs in his own house, and soaps the aisle of the school bus. But his mischief making days are numbered. He discovers a window beneath his mums washing line. Eyes glitter behind the window, and a voice calls to Jerry. He doesnt have to wonder long who could be speaking to him. After a day full of his antics at school, the monsters climb out of the window and try to kidnap Jerry and drag him underground. Terrified, Jerry screams he will be good forever. The monsters run away, unable to stand being around a good child. Jerry now knows the monsters only come after children who behave like monsters themselves. They kidnap misbehaving kids and pull them underground, locking them in cages and feeding them until they decide the little troublemakers are ready to be eaten. This doesnt sound like a bright future to Jerry, so he tries very hard to improve his behavior.Eventually, he just cant do it anymore. In a relapse, he steals a lollipop. As the monsters drag a struggling Jerry to the window in the ground, he knows its all over he doesnt deserve to be saved, and his parents probably dont love him anyway. But Mr and Mrs Ronden explode out of the family home, armed with an encyclopaedia and a rolling pin, ready to beat the monsters into submission. When Mrs Ronden smashes the window, the monsters cant survive. They collapse into dust, and Jerry is saved. Jerry tells his parents hes sorry for his awful behavior, and they tell him they feel like theyve been given a second chance too a chance to love Jerry better. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Willemse, Catherine (illustratore). Hardcover. In a world that demands so much from women, every hour of every day, affirmations are a powerful part of self-care, a way of strengthening the self, quieting the noise, and finding inner peace. They are simple but potent words that, when spoken with intention as a daily practice, help us become our strongest, kindest, most real, and most comfortably imperfect selves. The eloquent affirmations and vibrant illustrations of No One Does It Like You combine in a fresh, timely way to bring a needed message to millennial women, a way that is wise, beautiful, surprising, and never saccharine or preachy. The language is singular, personal, memorable:Regard yourself as the moon; wash everything in your light. / When youre tempted to say I dont know, consider that you do, and try that instead. / Gild the Kingdom of your brain; Keep researching / You can be true evidence of goodness for others. And the art, filled with characters that every reader will relate to, sets the affirmations in a real moment, reinforcing the idea that this is a book to celebrate everything that makes us us and the message that you, the reader, are not alone. A new take on self-care: Inspired by the Daily Affirmations column in Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner's Lenny Letter, here are illustrated affirmations (Regard yourself as the moon; wash everything in your light. / You can be true evidence of goodness for others.) on how to be the kindest, strongest, most real you. A book both wise and beautiful, to inspire female empowerment and self-love. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Peter Clarke and James Matthews were born within days of each other. Clarke on 2 June 1929 in a stone cottage overlooking False Bay. Matthews eight days earlier, across Table Mountain, in a Bo-Kaap tenement building facing the city bowl. These two boys, from similar backgrounds, grew into young men before they met and formed a friendship that would last a lifetime. They became 'almost more than brothers'. Yet they are complete opposites: Clarke is charecterized by his dignified reserve and meticulous order, Mattthews by his forthrighteness and bohemian disorder. Over a period of more than forty years both became well known in their respective disciplines--Clarke became a poet, short-story writer and primarily a painter; Matthews sharted out writing short stories and novels, before establishing himself as the dispatcher of raging Black Consciousness poetry. This book is a tribute to two fiercely independent artists. It is liberally illustrated with the work of both artists in b/w and color photographs.
