This book explores the development and usage of the first person plural imperative form in German from 9th century Old High German to the early modern period. The author examines religious texts, specifically biblical translations, to trace the evolution of various types of this grammatical form. The study shows how the type gen persisted from Old High German into the Middle High German period, while the type gen wir, which emerged in the 10th century, became more frequent and eventually replaced gen. The author also discusses the emergence of the types sollen, wir sollen gen, lasst uns gen, and wir wollen gen. The book situates this grammatical development within the broader context of Germanic and provides a detailed analysis of the factors that influenced the emergence and spread of these forms. By examining how the first person plural imperative has been used in German over time, this book offers insights into the grammatical and linguistic history of the German language. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Kurrelmeyer (John Hopkins University). ------- William Kurrelmeyer, ursprünglich Wilhelm Kurrelmeyer (* 17. Januar 1874 in Osnabrück; ? 9. Br.

A compilation of the three traditions of Biblical interpretation in circulation from at least the 3rd century BC, it is famous for blending aspects of the three different traditions, resulting in a unique interpretation of the religious text. It served as the authoritative Biblical text throughout most of the Middle Ages and remains in use in the Roman Catholic Church today. The Vulgate is a notable example of the breadth and depth of medieval Biblical scholarship, with enduring significance in the history of Christianity and Western Civilization.
