The contributions of the study are threefold: it documents in detail as few other investigations do, demographic variation of a defined population over a prolonged period; it provides significant implications for future population studies in its careful account of a trial contraceptive program among poorly educated people in an underdeveloped country; its collateral research into factors influencing population dynamics yields important data and concepts applicable to local and national birth control programs.
