No Binding. Condizione: Collectible-Very Good. Two letters, both 5 x 8", 6 pages. The first, from Kate Youmans, from Keene Valley, Aug.1878 is to an unidentified man who has sent her a manuscript of a book about the Hawaiian Islands which he hopes to republish. She commiserates about the difficulties he has had with publishers, says she has asked her husband for advice and he reports that Mr. Bunce says to send the manuscript along for consideration. She enjoyed the book and descriptions of food, fauna, etc. in Hawaii. She has some ideas for changes and doesn't want to be mentioned in the dedication. The other letter is from her husband, N.Y., 1884, to a Mr. Blanchard who apparently has requested some autographs. He will refer the letter to Mr. Bunce who is in charge of business matters. Also mentions the passing of Mrs. Wm. H. Appleton. Both are difficult to read due to fading. Edward Livingston Youmans (1821-87) was a writer and the founder and editor of Popular Science Monthly. His wife Kate was his assistant in various editorial and promotional endeavors.
