La conclusione è che esse contribuirono a condizionare non poco l'atteggiamento dei fedeli in senso favorevole al nefasto regime (esempi di resistenza e rivolta non mancarono, ma restarono isolati e furono limitati negli obiettivi). Nell'epoca presente, certo non a caso, il Concilio Vaticano II ha stabilito che l'obbedienza dei cattolici al potere deve sempre essere verificata dalla coscienza critica riferita alla fedeltà evangelica. Un libro come questo, quindi, offre uno studio del passato che diviene, dialetticamente, immunizzazione per il futuro, invito a non ripercorrere i sentieri di un conformismo morale e politico che è tentazione diabolica.
