Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Very Good. ORIGINAL 1930s MAGAZINE ILLUSTRATION SCRAPBOOK — 27 ORIGINAL CUT-OUTS IN CUSTOM BOX An unusual and visually striking original scrapbook of 1930s American magazine illustration, preserving 27 leaves of original magazine cut-outs from the Golden Age of American illustration and scrapbook-making. The collection presents a lively cross-section of commercial illustration from the period, with clean, brightly colored, upbeat imagery drawn from contemporary American magazines. Represented artists include Alan Foster, Robert Fawcett, George de Zayas, Anthony Fraioli, Robert O. Reid, Jorj Harris, and Gaspano "Gus" Ricca, among others. The illustrators represented here worked across such important periodicals as The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, Holiday, Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar, The New Yorker, Liberty, and Time, as well as advertising and other commercial publications. Particularly notable is the representation of Robert O. Reid, whose distinctive cartoon-like illustrations appeared on Collier's covers and as story illustrations and advertisements during a relatively brief period of professional prominence. Also represented is Gus Ricca, whose work appeared in The New Yorker, Liberty, Time and Collier's before his later career in pulp magazines and comic books. The scrapbook itself is an interesting piece of vernacular collecting and preservation, reflecting the period fascination with clipping, arranging and saving the era's colorful magazine art. The 27 original disbound leaves have been repaired with contemporaneous material. The leaves, together with the original boards, are housed in an unusual custom-made protective box measuring approximately 11 x 14½ inches. A colorful and uncommon survivor documenting both the Golden Age of American commercial illustration and the popular culture of 1930s magazine publishing. Of interest to collectors of American illustration, magazine history, advertising art, graphic arts, ephemera and vintage scrapbooks.…

ORIGINAL SCRAPBOOK of 1930s MAGAZINE ART in a custom-made box, 11"x14.5", housing (27) leaves of magazine illustrations from the golden era of American magazine illustrations and scrapbook-making. The cut-outs are clean, brightly colored, upbeat and a good representation of 20th century illustration art. Magazine illustrators include: Alan Foster-- a prolific illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post & Colliers, known for his droll humor and sports pics. Robert Fawcett-- who did story illustrations and full-page ads, appearing in The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, Holiday and Cosmopolitan. George de Zayas-- a Mexican caricature artist, was best known for work that appeared in Collier's, Harper's Bazaar, and the magazine section of the New York Herald Tribune. Anthony Fraioli. Robert O Reid-- for about 3 years, Reid made amusing, cartoonish illustrations which appeared on Collier's magazine covers and inside as story illustrations, as well as advertisements. Before and after that blaze of professional glory, little of Reid can be readily found. Jorj Harris-- whose work appeared in national magazines as covers, cartoons, illustrations and national advertising campaigns. Gaspano "Gus" Ricca- whose artwork was seen in The New Yorker (1928), Liberty (1933), Time (1934), Collier's (1935), before he pivoted to pulps & comic books. All original (27) disbound leaves were repaired with contemporaneous material; along with the original boards are housed in a custom-made box, 11"x14.5".…
