Additional postage for international delivery Kravchenko became famous through his autobiography I Chose Freedom , published in 1946 , in which he made revelations about the collectivization of agriculture , the Soviet prison camps of the Gulag and exploitation 4 . The book is published in a tense context between the countries of the communist bloc and the Western countries. Its publication is denounced by the Soviet Union and the communist parties linked to it. Kravchenko's book is a huge international success. Published in France in 1947, the book receives the Prix Sainte-Beuve in June, but quickly becomes the target of the communist and related press4 .
