Aggiungi al carrelloBroschur / Softcover. 1. Aufl. This publication aims to demonstrate the great diversity and versatility of the familiar material of ceramic. In a selection of works by architects such as Eduardo Souto de Moura, Caruso St. John, Lacaton Vassal, FOA and EMBT. Whether mass-produced or made-to-measure, contemporary architecture puts ceramics to use in unexpected and innovative ways, as a traditional cladding, as a ventilated faade, as a skin or as building material. Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. The book is in very good condition, little shelf rubbing apparent. Text and images inside appear clean and clear throughout. 'OMA's design for the Seattle Public Library--one of the firm's most heavily anticipated projects to date--begins with a radical rethinking of the very nature of the library. If the library exists today as a threatened sanctuary, it has been done in by its own stubborn reliance on one kind of literacy and its consequent blindness to other emerging forms that increasingly dominate our culture, especially the huge efficiencies and pleasures of visual intelligence. Rather than merely package this traditional institution in a new way, OMA has completely reinvented it, transforming it wholeheartedly into a site able to aggressively orchestrate the coexistence of all available technologies for collecting, condensing, distributing, reading, and manipulating information. The library will no longer be loyal to the book. In more architectural terms, the $156 million building has an angular, meshlike glass and metal skin that surrounds a series of floating public spaces: a kid's area at the bottom; a living room for browsing, public meeting areas, and a coffee shop; a mixing chamber where patrons can work intensively with librarians; and a reading room at the top with views of Mount Rainier and Puget Sound. In between these platforms are a series of programmatic boxes containing the more stable, or fixed, parts of the library program, including a continuous four-story book spiral where the entirety of the library's books will be stored. This third book in Actar's series of Verb monographs reveals how the Seattle Public Library works, and examines it in terms of new media technologies that have changed the status of the library in the contemporary city from a traditional repository for books to an "information store." Also included is a comprehensive account of the design process, from initial concept through construction to ribbon cutting.' 162 pages. 7 x 9.75 inches. May require additional postage. This listing was made by a small independent book shop. We carefully inspect every single book we list and give accurate descriptions. If you require, we will promptly send pictures of listed books upon request.

Vinyl-bound. Condizione: Used - Like New. The continuously accelerating phenomenon of urbanization continues to be one of the great challenges of our time, surfacing repeatedly as an issue in different areas of the world for two hundred years. In a world that has been redefined by a proliferation of communication networks and by a progressive erasure of borders, Mutations reflects on the transformations that these accelerating processes inflict on our environment, and on the spaces in which architecture can still operate. Organized as a heavily illustrated atlas/survey of contemporary urban landscapes, the first section of this exhaustive and essential book begins with revealing data on global urbanization, juxtaposed with a series of essays on the changing environment and economy of today's metropolis. The rest of the book is devoted to a selection of groundbreaking studies by some of the central figures in contemporary architectural urbanism, including the Pearl River Delta in Southeast Asia, a project of the Harvard Project on the City, directed by Rem Koolhaas; ''Uncertain States of Europe, '' a project by Stefano Boeri and Multiplicity; a survey of American cities by Sanford Kwinter and Daniela Fabricius; and a study of Lagos, Nigeria--one of Africa's largest cities--by the Harvard Project. The author of 'S, M, L, XL' teams up with an international group of top architects and theorists to explore the myriad ways in which the city is undergoing a series of profound transformations. Illustrations throughout. Flexi-bound. BEAUTIFUL COPY!!!
