Paperback. Condizione: Good. The mountain village of Zermatt, Switzerland is nestled in a valley between steep mountains, and it is dominated by the Matterhorn. When you exit your Swiss-red train, and see the cobblestone streets and horses and carriages, you immediately will notice are no cars. The air is clean and fresh, and the people want to keep it that way The main street bustles with people shopping, dining and having a good time, and there are no tour busses anywhere. In short, everything is cute and fun, and you immediately know where Walt Disney got many of his ideas for Disneyland, as you can see the Matterhorn from nearly every prospective in the Zermatt village. And this is exactly why photographer John D. Weigand and author and poet Penelope Dyan went there, to capture some of the magic of Zermatt. It seemed like the perfect spot for kids, nestled in the serenity of the Swiss Alps. . . just waiting to be ogled and explored. The Zermatt nights were even more beautiful than the day as the Weigand photographs portray, but most amazing of all was the Matterhorn, shining white against the sky by day, and full of amazing color by night.…

Paperback. Condizione: Good. In today's modern world, we're all spoiled with instant gratification. The Internet, cell phones, Wi‐Fi, email and video chats provide us with many avenues to get what we need and get it fast. Those cravings for mom's apple pie or Grandma's famous chocolate ice cream topping can be gotten in a mere phone call or email. If we see something on television, in a magazine or in a picture, we can hop on the Internet and get any one of a hundred recipes for it. If we don't feel like cooking, we can run to our favorite restaurant or order take-out. We're definitely blessed with a much easier life than that of the previous generations.Back in Grandma Dorothy's day, life was much more limited and required people to be creative. The lack of money, the Great Depression and WWII all had impacts on daily life. Many meals revolved around the backyard garden or what limited items could be gotten at the small markets down the street. The literal term of borrowing a cup of sugar was actually common, and something that connected neighbors. Meals were home cooked and were eaten together at the family's table ‐ a wholesome life in more ways than one.Grandma Dorothy and most of the Anderson girls were children of the Great Depression. From Great‐Grandma Selma and Great‐Grandpa John, they learned to live within their means. Basic skills such as cooking, sewing, and gardening were taught early, and all had a part in daily life. For many of us, myself included, if we were asked to bake a homemade loaf of bread, we'd give you a blank, panicked look. For Great‐Grandma Selma, she could whip up the best bread in no time flat. I have fond memories of going with Grandma Dorothy to her house and enjoying a piece of her famous freshly baked bread and butter. I've tried to reproduce her recipe and failed miserably every time. She just had that special touch. And this is in essence Sarah's story, told in food and recipes, with joy and with love. This is a cookbook that is more than a cookbook And this is a cookbook you will most certainly use and enjoy.…

Paperback. Condizione: Good. Dubrovnik is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea coast, at the terminal end of the Isthmus of Dubrovnik. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic, a seaport and the centre of Dubrovnik-Neretva county. But this is not what is fascinating about this place. Kids and adults alike will marvel at what they see when they approach Dubrovnik, because what you see and what you find (kid's are very keen on exploring and finding things) is a walled city, a real bridge that goes over a moat and a drawbridge And there is much, much more Photographer John D. Weigand and Penelope Dyan (attorney, award winning author, poet and former teacher) let you travel with them through the photographs and words of this book, not spoon feeding facts, but letting the eye capture a moment to stir an imagination. Learning is about exploration, and whether you explore through a book, or in person by visiting a place, kids see what the adult eye doesn't see. Dyan and Weigand follow the things that kids see, not adults. Kids are encouraged, as with all Dyan/Weigand travel books to make this book their own, to add to it, insert their own photographs, postcards and words. Learning should always be a personal thing.…
