Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -This textbook's methodological approach familiarizes readers with the mathematical tools required to correctly define and solve problems in continuum mechanics. Covering essential principles and fundamental applications, this second edition o…f Continuum Mechanics using Mathematica® provides a solid basis for a deeper study of more challenging and specialized problems related to nonlinear elasticity, polar continua, mixtures, piezoelectricity, ferroelectricity, magneto-fluid mechanics and state changes (see A. Romano, A. Marasco, Continuum Mechanics: Advanced Topics and Research Trends, Springer (Birkhäuser), 2010, ISBN 978-0-8176-4869-5). Key topics and features: \* Concise presentation strikes a balance between fundamentals and applications \* Requisite mathematical background carefully collected in two introductory chapters and one appendix \* Recent developments highlighted through coverage of more significant applications to areas such as wave propagation, fluid mechanics, porous media, linear elasticity. This second edition expands the key topics and features to include: \* Two new applications of fluid dynamics: meteorology and navigation \* New exercises at the end of the existing chapters \* The packages are rewritten for Mathematica 9 Continuum Mechanics using Mathematica®: Fundamentals, Applications and Scientific Computing is aimed at advanced undergraduates, graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics, mathematical physics and engineering. It may serve as a course textbook or self-study reference for anyone seeking a solid foundation in continuum mechanics.Springer Nature c/o IBS, Benzstrasse 21, 48619 Heek 496 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -With chapters on free boundaries, constitutive equations, stochastic dynamics, nonlinear diffusion¿consumption, structured populations, and applications of optimal control theory, this volume presents the most significant recent results in th…e field of mathematical oncology. It highlights the work of world-class research teams, and explores how different researchers approach the same problem in various ways.Tumors are complex entities that present numerous challenges to the mathematical modeler. First and foremost, they grow. Thus their spatial mean field description involves a free boundary problem. Second, their interiors should be modeled as nontrivial porous media using constitutive equations. Third, at the end of anti-cancer therapy, a small number of malignant cells remain, making the post-treatment dynamics inherently stochastic. Fourth, the growth parameters of macroscopic tumors are non-constant, as are the parameters of anti-tumor therapies. Changes in these parameters may induce phenomena that are mathematically equivalent to phase transitions. Fifth, tumor vascular growth is random and self-similar. Finally, the drugs used in chemotherapy diffuse and are taken up by the cells in nonlinear ways.Mathematical Oncology 2013 will appeal to graduate students and researchers in biomathematics, computational and theoretical biology, biophysics, and bioengineering.Springer Nature c/o IBS, Benzstrasse 21, 48619 Heek 344 pp. Englisch.
