The Nimzo-lndian is one of the most important and popular chess openings among players of all standards. However, there is a dearth of good literature explaining the dynamics of the Nimzo -- a need that this book answers. A battle-hardened grandmaster explains the secrets of the Nimzo-lndian and shows how both sides can play for a win.Cadogan's new Easy Guide series represents a new approach to chess openings books: just enough detail and just enough explanation to enable readers to play an opening with confidence, without months of memorising theory: the easy way to master a chess opening. Condition: Light edge wear with gently bumped corners else very good.

Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. 143+[1 ad] pages with diagrams. Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 3/4:) bound in original publisher's pictorial wrappers. First edition. The Modern Benoni is a chess opening that begins with the moves 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e6. It is classified under the ECO codes A60A79. After the initial moves, Black proceeds to capture on d5, creating a majority of black pawns on the queenside. To support their advance, the king's bishop is usually fianchettoed on g7. These two features differentiate Black's setup from the other Benoni defences and the King's Indian Defence, although transpositions between these openings are common. Frank Marshall invented the Modern Benoni in 1927, but his experiments with the opening went largely ignored for over 20 years. In the 1950s the system was revitalized by players in the Soviet Union, chief among them Mikhail Tal. Its subsequent adoption by players of a similarly aggressive and uncompromising style such as Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov established the opening's reputation as one of Black's most dynamic responses to 1.d4. Condition: Edge wear, old price sticker to front wrapper, corners bumped and rubbed else very good.

Aggiungi al carrelloTrade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. Assumed First Addition. 227 Pages Indexed. The English Opening is one of the most popular of modem openings. It is hard to imagine today a national or international tournament in which this opening does not occur. The diversity of strategic ideas, the unusual flexibility of its set-ups, and the complex manoeuvring struggle make it attractive to many grandmasters and masters. The move 1 c4 first began to occur in tournament play in the second half of the last century in games by English players, in particular Howard Staunton, from which it received its name. A contribution to the development of this opening was made by many outstanding players from the past, such as Zukertort, Nimzowitsch, Rubinstein, Reti, Capablanca and Alekhine. Then the popularity of the English Opening declined. But the deep development of openings such as the Nirnzo-Indian and Griinfeld Defences, in which Black began achieving good results, forced players choosing the closed games with White to seek new paths. And once again this old opening came to the forefront, allowing White to avoid the defences mentioned. Thus the move 1 c4! again became topical. A great contribution to the development of new paths in the English Opening was made by the outstanding Soviet player Botvinnik. In recent years it has been a major weapon of Smyslov, Polugayevsky, Larsen, Petrosian, Tal, Portisch, Spas sky, Karpov, Korchnoi, Uhlmann, Ljubojevic, Andersson, Miles, Hort, Hubner, and many others. It has also been employed by World Champion Garry Kasparov. There is essentially not a single modem grandmaster who has not included the English Opening in his opening repertoire either as White or as Black. Many authors have made a study of the English Opening, and the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings, which first appeared in 1979, united their efforts. But, as usual, opening theory has not stood still. Hundreds, even thousands of games have been played, changing the evaluations of older variations and analyses. And the need for a new work has arisen.

The Panov-Botvinnik Attack is a strong, classical attacking system for White against the Caro-Kann. White develops quickly and attacks the centre, putting immediate pressure on the Black position. This book is the first to give detailed, systematic coverage to this important opening. By stressing the key themes, the author prepares players not just to put their pieces on the right squares in the opening, but to know the typical plans in each of the structures that can arise. Cadogan's new Easy Guide series represents a new approach to chess openings books: just enough detail and just enough explanation to enable readers to play an opening with confidence, without months of memorising theory - the easy way to master a chess opening. Jacob Aagaard is a young international master from Denmark who is now chasing the grandmaster title. Although this is his first book chess, away from the chessboard he is a novelist, and this comes cross clearly in the quality of his writing. Condition: Light edge wear with gently bumped corners else very good.
