Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book comprises well over three-hundred exercises in matrix algebra and their solutions. The exercises are taken from my earlier book Matrix Algebra From a Statistician's Perspective. They have been restated (as necessary) to make them comprehensible independently of their source. To further insure that the restated exercises have this stand-alone property, I have included in the front matter a section on terminology and another on notation. These sections provide definitions, descriptions, comments, or explanatory material pertaining to certain terms and notational symbols and conventions from Matrix Algebra From a Statistician's Perspective that may be unfamiliar to a nonreader of that book or that may differ in generality or other respects from those to which he/she is accustomed. For example, the section on terminology includes an entry for scalar and one for matrix. These are standard terms, but their use herein (and in Matrix Algebra From a Statistician's Perspective) is restricted to real numbers and to rectangular arrays of real numbers, whereas in various other presentations, a scalar may be a complex number or more generally a member of a field, and a matrix may be a rectangular array of such entities. 308 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Benoit Mandelbrot is a world-renowned scientist whose pioneering research significantly advanced the field of fractal geometry. This is the third volume of his Selected Works, focusing on a detailed study of fraction Brownian motions. The fractal themes of 'self-affinity' and 'globality' are presented. Extensive introductory material, written especially for this book, precedes the papers and presents a number of striking new observations and conjectures. The mathematical tools discussed will be valuable to diverse scientific communities. 668 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Empirical likelihood provides inferences whose validity does not depend on specifying a parametric model for the data. Because it uses a likelihood, the method has certain inherent advantages over resampling methods: it uses the data to determine the shape of the confidence regions, and it makes it easy to combined data from multiple sources. It also facilitates incorporating side information, and it simplifies accounting for censored, truncated, or biased sampling. One of the first books published on the subject, Empirical Likelihood offers an in-depth treatment of this method for constructing confidence regions and testing hypotheses. The author applies empirical likelihood to a range of problems, from those as simple as setting a confidence region for a univariate mean under IID sampling, to problems defined through smooth functions of means, regression models, generalized linear models, estimating equations, or kernel smooths, and to sampling with non-identically distributed data. Abundant figures offer visual reinforcement of the concepts and techniques. Examples from a variety of disciplines and detailed descriptions of algorithms-also posted on a companion Web site at-illustrate the methods in practice. Exercises help readers to understand and apply the methods. The method of empirical likelihood is now attracting serious attention from researchers in econometrics and biostatistics, as well as from statisticians. This book is your opportunity to explore its foundations, its advantages, and its application to a myriad of practical problems. 326 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Analysis of covariance is a very useful but often misunderstood methodology for analyzing data where important characteristics of the experimental units are measured but not included as factors in the design. Analysis of Messy Data, Volume 3: Analysis of Covariance takes the unique approach of treating the analysis of covariance problem by looking at a set of regression models, one for each of the treatments or treatment combinations. Using this strategy, analysts can use their knowledge of regression analysis and analysis of variance to help attack the problem. The authors describe the strategy for one- and two-way treatment structures with one and multiple covariates in a completely randomized design structure. They present new methods for comparing models and sets of parameters, including beta-hat models. They carefully investigate the effect of blocking, explore mixed models, and present a new methodology for using covariates to analyze data from nonreplicated experiments.Analysis of covariance provides an invaluable set of strategies for analyzing data. With its careful balance of theory and examples, Analysis of Messy Data: Volume 3 provides a unique and outstanding guide to the strategy's techniques, theory, and application. 624 pp. Englisch.
