The about the author blurb tells us he ''has coached and demonstrate knife and tomahawk throwing for more than thirty years and is founder and national director of The American Knife Throwers Alliance.'' Such fundamental matters as how to build a target, what size knives to buy, how to assure safety, and how to organize a competition are just a few of the many facets of knife throwing he considers. For the more experienced knife throwers, the author tells how knives and tomahawks can be used in hunting game and explains the special throwing techniques that are necessary when a man armed with only a knife faces a wild beast.'' Thin boards. Condizione: Very Good. 10th Printing. Description: A beautifully illustrated little travel book on Japan. The ''Emperor's Road'' is the Tokaido. It was down this road in 1832 that a detachment of the Edo fire-brigade traveled with a gift from a shogun to the emperor. One of the minor officials on the trip was Ichiyo… Hiroshige, and he spent most of his time sketching. The results of these sketches appeared some time later back in Edo when he published a series of prints showing the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido. It was very well received and he published several series of prints. This book reproduces a little known version. Each double page layout has one full page color illustration, with text and a smaller black and white picture on the opposite page. This Tuttle edition was originally published in 1965, this is a later printing. BINDING/CONDITION: thin boards drilled and bound with thin red cord; the doubled pages are printed on only one side, and then folded, print side out, and that folded edge then forms the outer edge of the finished book. a Fine book, with a Good+ slipcase. oblong format: about 3.75 inches tall by 6 inches wide. 72 pages. oblong format: about 3.75 inches tall by 6 inches wide.

Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. Fifth Printing. 169 Pages with Glossary/Index. Master the ancient Chinese martial art of Shaolin Kung Fu with this illustrated martial arts guide. The style of martial arts described in this book is believed to have developed from a form devised at the Shaolin Temple by the Indian monk Bodhidha…rma. Called Shih-pa lohan shou (Eighteen Arhat Hands), it was the original Lohan form. Its purpose was to provide monks with exercises that would not only strengthen their bodies and minds but also arm them with a formidable system of self-defense. The authors present the Lohan techniques of south China (as taught by the Hood Khar Pai) in both solo and partner practice forms. Intended as a supplement to actual training, Shaolin Lohan Kung-Fu gives the history of the Shaolin arts and then continues with a detailed explanation of the Lohan form. Accompanied by almost 30 sketches and over 400 black-and-white photographs, this straightforward introduction to the Lohan system is a must for any serious student of Shaolin techniques. Chapters include: Background of Shaolin Kung Fu; Fundamentals of Shaolin; The Lohan Pattern; Shaolin Training Methods; and more.

Aggiungi al carrelloMass Market. Condizione: Very Good. Second Printing. 238 Pages. This was a two day conference on China policy with their opposite numbers presently or recently, in the United States government. Ambassador Ronning of Canada attended as an observer. The report that follows is a distillation of position papers prepared by the parti…cipants and of the transcribed record of six protracted working sessions. These are some of the excerpts from the dialogue between leading Japanese legislators and their American counterparts concerned with the fact that in 1970 the Security Treaty under which U. S. forces have eroded a defense shield for a disarmed Japan, comes up for renewal. The issue of Japanese rearmament was raised at a time when, on both sides of the Pacific, there are sharply conflicting attitudes toward China and Taiwan, and the continuing conflict in Southeast Asia enhances the sense of crisis. The critical exchange of among informed and concerned political leaders is interwoven with a review of the interlocking China policy pursued by the two great powers in the aftermath of their own mortal combat. Here is a partial list of the participants: William O. Douglas, Aiichro Fujiyama, Shunich Matsumoto, Arthur Goldberg, Mark Hatfield, and more. Contents in Four Parts: An Isolated China Threat to World Peace, The Making of an Impasse, The Critical Questions A Time for Entrenchment of Opportunity for Modification, and A New Age for Asia.
