Hardcover. Reprint of 1928 edition. 2 vols. Three-quarters brown cloth, with brown leather-like spines & corners, gilt lettters & decorations on spines, brown cloth slipcases, 1289 pp., 641 BW illus., 39 color plates; set weighs 14.5 lbs. Text is in Italian. A 1971 reprint of the 1928 classic by Italian magazine editor, gallery owner, and art critic Enrico Somare. Volume one provides an introduction and addresses the painters of Lombardy, Venice, the Pietmont, Liguria, Emiliani, and those who were neoclassicists. Volume two addresses the painters of Tuscany, Naples, and central Italy. This is set #178 of 600 copies, signed and numbered. Surname of signature looks like "Somare;" and though no indication shows who it may belong to -- there is no new introduction or preface to this reprint edition -- it may be a relative or descendent of the original author. VG (Some scuffs and corner wear on slipcases; few marks from previous gallery owner; otherwise books are close to Like New, inside and out.).
