Soft cover. Condizione: Good. Published in a limited academic edition of 100 copies. Paperback, 307 pages, NOT ex-library. Clean untanned interior with unmarked text. Mild storage wear to outer page edges. Cover shows shelfworn marks and scratches. A couple of small gentle indentations to lower spine and minor wrinkles to lower edge, else spine uncreased. --- The papers presented in this volume range widely across the whole landscape of higher education and the role of libraries and librarians in it. They range from the truly visionary to those based on practical experience. They tackle aspects of the electronic library from electronic publishing to collection development; from organisational changes which might result from more computer based services to the development of special services. (.) Amongst the range of issues addressed, the underlying theme is undoubtedly the impact of the information superhighway on the role and functions of librarians. Is there a role for the librarian in an increasingly paperless, virtual library?

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Paperback, 289 pages, NOT ex-library. A faint beige stain on lower outer page edges externally, also showing - very vaguely - in lower corner of the last and first page inside the book. Else clean and bright with limited wear, firm binding, unmarked text. Free of inscriptions and stamps. -- A collection of advanced research and expository articles in the fields of differential inclusions, topological fixed-point theory, and optimal control. Originating from a 1997 mini-semester hosted by the International Stefan Banach Mathematical Center in Warsaw, in cooperation with the Juliusz Schauder Center for Nonlinear Studies, the volume gathers contributions from leading international mathematicians and emerging scholars, making it a valuable reference point for both established researchers and early-career mathematicians in nonlinear analysis. The book is divided into three thematic sections: differential inclusions, topological methods, and optimal control theory. The topics converge around the role of set-valued and multivalued mappings in modern mathematical systems, exploring how topological and variational methods can be applied to increasingly complex differential problems. The first section deals with the existence, uniqueness, periodicity, and stability of solutions to quasi-linear and semilinear differential inclusions, including works on discontinuous systems (Bressan and Shen), nonlocal boundary value problems (Allegretto and Nistri), and multivalued Nielsen fixed-point theory (Andres, Gorniewicz, and Juzierski). These contributions deepen the theoretical framework for dynamic systems influenced by non-deterministic or discontinuous dynamics. The second section focuses on topological tools and fixed-point theorems, including generalizations of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem (Dzedzej and Izydorek), graph approximations of set-valued maps (Kryszewski), and Leray-Schauder-type theorems with applications to equilibria (Idzik and Park). These provide robust techniques for handling abstract inclusions that arise in infinite-dimensional or nonconvex settings. The third section applies these tools to optimal control problems, Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations, and differential games. Several papers address the uniqueness and regularity of optimal trajectories, shock formation, and state constraints in optimal control theory (Byrnes and Frankowska; Frankowska and Plaskacz). Other contributions explore convex and variational methods, including approximate solutions in the calculus of variations (Moussaoui and Seeger) and conditions for equilibrium in constrained systems. This volume will be especially relevant for researchers interested in the rigorous treatment of dynamical systems governed by multivalued maps, offering a combination of foundational theory, advanced techniques, and applications to physics, mechanics, and control theory.

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Scarce paperback, 419pp + 11 pages of glossy colour plates, NOT ex-library. Gentle wear, interior is clean with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. Faint handling marks on page edges externally. -- A critical study that offers one of the most comprehensive analyses of British drama during the closing decades of the 20th century. Spanning nearly 30 years, this volume explores how British theatre responded to a society marked by political upheaval, cultural revolution and ideological fragmentation. Wiszniowska begins with 1968 - not only the year of theatre censorship's abolition, but also a symbolic turning point when fringe theatre, feminist performance and radical experimentation emerged alongside the flourishing of pop and counter-culture. Chronicling the period from the late 1960s through the mid-1990s, she draws attention to both celebrated and neglected texts and combines detailed textual analysis with broader reflections on how theatre mirrored social and political shifts, from the Thatcher years to the end of the Cold War. Structured around eight chapters, the book addresses the evolving contours of political and historical drama, the transformation of feminist theatre and the interplay between modern and postmodern aesthetics. Wiszniowska contextualises the radical energies of the 1970s and their gradual institutionalisation during the 1980s, where political commitment gave way to introspection. She offers vivid analyses of works by John McGrath, David Hare, Howard Brenton and Caryl Churchill, while spotlighting lesser-known texts that capture the era's creative volatility. Her treatment of adaptation is especially compelling: in plays by Marowitz, Bond, Stoppard and Jarman, Shakespeare and Marlowe are reimagined as tools for ideological confrontation and cultural reinvention. These adaptations serve as mirrors of contemporary anxiety, politicised and decontextualised to function as mythic or critical allegories. Another focal point is the portrayal of history. From Elizabethan figures to wartime narratives, Wiszniowska shows how dramatists interrogated myths of national identity and imperial memory. Her discussions of The Romans in Britain, The Madness of King George, and Plenty trace a shift from factual history to diseased memory or ideological battleground. She also explores how British political theatre ventured beyond national borders, with dramatists looking to Eastern Europe and Asia as mirrors and counterpoints to British dilemmas. In plays like Professional Foul and Edgar's The Shape of the Table, foreign settings stage debates on tyranny, dissent and personal responsibility. In her chapter on feminist drama, Wiszniowska draws nuanced distinctions between works by women and those by men addressing feminist themes. Through readings of plays by Churchill, Gems, Barker and Hare, she assesses the complexity and limits of representing female subjectivity on stage. The final chapter considers postmodern sensibilities - hybridity, intertextuality and genre-bending forms. She explores how domestic drama, absurdist legacies and commercial entertainment coexisted in a theatre landscape resistant to singular definition. Rather than fix postmodernism in place, she presents a theatre of multiplicity. By Action Dignified is more than a historical account; it is a reflection on theatre's cultural role in times of ideological flux. With its European comparative resonance, it will interest readers of theatre, politics and collective memory. Wiszniowska's meticulous research, interdisciplinary reach and lucid prose make this book an essential reference for scholars of theatre history, English studies and cultural politics. It restores theatre to the centre of British intellectual life and shows how drama remained a vital medium for reimagining society in an era of transformation.
