He was once a major fashion photographer but shifts to documenting the beauty and horror of the world's least glamorous places. He is in his late fifties and begins to sort his prints and negatives and take an inventory of his unsettled life. His solitary life is interrupted by a visit from his headstrong older sister. She has plans for her brother and these involve the farm as well as their neglected relationship. The author is a winner of the W. H. Smith Literary Award.
