Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Cutting-Edge Techniques to Better Analyze and Predict Complex Physical PhenomenaGeometric Modeling and Mesh Generation from Scanned Images shows how to integrate image processing, geometric modeling, and mesh generation with the finite element method (FEM) to solve problems in computational biolo…gy, medicine, materials science, and engineering. Based on the author's recent research and course at Carnegie Mellon University, the text explains the fundamentals of medical imaging, image processing, computational geometry, mesh generation, visualization, and finite element analysis. It also explores novel and advanced applications in computational biology, medicine, materials science, and other engineering areas. One of the first to cover this emerging interdisciplinary field, the book addresses biomedical/material imaging, image processing, geometric modeling and visualization, FEM, and biomedical and engineering applications. It introduces image-mesh-simulation pipelines, reviews numerical methods used in various modules of the pipelines, and discusses several scanning techniques, including ones to probe polycrystalline materials. The book next presents the fundamentals of geometric modeling and computer graphics, geometric objects and transformations, and curves and surfaces as well as two isocontouring methods: marching cubes and dual contouring. It then describes various triangular/tetrahedral and quadrilateral/hexahedral mesh generation techniques. The book also discusses volumetric T-spline modeling for isogeometric analysis (IGA) and introduces some new developments of FEM in recent years with applications.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Basics of Molecular Recognition explores fundamental recognition principles between monomers or macromolecules that lead to diverse biological functions. Based on the author's longtime courses, the book helps readers understand the structural aspects of macromolecular recognition and stimulates f…urther research on whether molecules similar to DNA or protein can be synthesized chemically. The book begins with the types of bonds that participate in the recognition and the functional groups that are capable of forming these bonds. It then explains how smaller molecules select their partners in the overall recognition scheme, offering examples of specific recognition patterns involving molecules other than nucleic acids. The core of the book focuses on macromolecular recognition-the central dogma of molecular biology. The author discusses various methods for studying molecular recognition. He also describes how molecules without biological functions can be arrayed or folded following certain rules and examines the nature of interactions among them.Molecular recognition is a vast area encompassing every aspect of biology. This book highlights all aspects of non-covalent macromolecular recognition processes, including DNA-protein recognition and sugar-protein recognition.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Opportunities in 5G Networks: A Research and Development Perspective uniquely focuses on the R&D technical design of 5th-generation (5G) networks. It is written and edited by researchers and engineers who are world-renown experts in the design of 5G networks. The book consists of four sections: T…he first section explains what 5G is, what its real uses are, and the effects of 5G for mobile operators. It provides an overview of the evolution from 4G to 5G and discusses the services, visions, requirements, and key enabling technologies for 5G networks. The second section covers the nuts and bolts of 5G design, including cellular network deployment policies, directional antennas for cellular networks, and vertical sectoring. It discusses the development of quality-of-service management principles at the network level in the new Third Generation Partnership Project releases and their implementation in 5G networks. It covers massive multiple-in multiple-out systems-a key enabling technology for 5G, and looks at issues associated with channel estimation and channel feedback in massive multiple-in multiple-out. It also addresses converged management of radio and optical resources. The third section provides an overview of candidate physical layer technologies for 5G systems, nonorthogonal multiple access, and Nyquist signaling rates. The final section covers the centimeter-wave (cmWave) concept (below 30 GHz), the 5G cmWave concept for small cells, fundamental technology components such as optimized frame structure, dynamic scheduling of uplink/downlink transmission, interference suppression receivers, and rank adaptation. Finally, it examines millimeter-wave (mmWave) models along with medium access control design, 5G mmWave communications, and high-directional new medium access control mechanisms for directional mmWave wireless systems.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - The use of small animal models in basic and preclinical sciences constitutes an integral part of testing new pharmaceutical agents prior to their application in clinical practice. New imaging and therapeutic approaches need to be tested and validated first in animals before application to humans.… Handbook of Small Animal Imaging: Preclinical Imaging, Therapy, and Applications collects the latest information about various imaging and therapeutic technologies used in preclinical research into a single source. Useful to established researchers as well as newcomers to the field, this handbook shows readers how to exploit and integrate these imaging and treatment modalities and techniques into their own research. The book first presents introductory material on small animal imaging, therapy, and research ethics. It next covers ionizing radiation and nonionizing radiation methods in small animal imaging, hybrid imaging, and imaging agents. The book then addresses therapeutic research platforms and image quantification, explaining how to ensure accurate measurements of high-quality data. It concludes with an overview of many small animal imaging and therapy applications that demonstrate the strength of the techniques in biomedical fields.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Dynamics is increasingly being identified by consulting engineers as one of the key skills which needs to be taught in civil engineering degree programs. This is driven by the trend towards lighter, more vibration-prone structures,… the growth of business in earthquake regions, the identification of new threats such as terrorist attack and the increased availability of sophisticated dynamic analysis tools.Martin Williams presents this short, accessible introduction to the area of structural dynamics. He begins by describing dynamic systems and their representation for analytical purposes. The two main chapters deal with linear analysis of single (SDOF) and multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems, under free vibration and in response to a variety of forcing functions. Hand analysis of continuous systems is covered briefly to illustrate the key principles. Methods of calculation of non-linear dynamic response is also discussed. Lastly, the key principles of random vibration analysis are presented - this approach is crucial for wind engineering and is increasingly important for other load cases. An appendix briefly summarizes relevant mathematical techniques. Extensive use is made of worked examples, mostly drawn from civil engineering (though not exclusively - there is considerable benefit to be gained from emphasizing the commonality with other branches of engineering). This introductory dynamics textbook is aimed at upper level civil engineering undergraduates and those starting an M.Sc. course in the area. 284 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Introductory Guide on the Design of Aerospace StructuresDeveloped from a course taught at Concordia University for more than 20 years, Principles of Aeroelasticity utilizes the author's extensive teaching experience to immerse undergradua…te and first-year graduate students into this very specialized subject. Ideal for coursework or self-study, this detailed examination introduces the concepts of aeroelasticity, describes how aircraft lift structures behave when subjected to aerodynamic loads, and finds its application in aerospace, civil, and mechanical engineering. The book begins with a discussion on static behavior, and moves on to static instability and divergence, dynamic behavior leading up to flutter, and fluid structure interaction problems. It covers classical approaches based on low-order aerodynamic models and provides a rationale for adopting certain aeroelastic models. The author describes the formulation of discrete models as well as continuous structural models. He also provides approximate methods for solving divergence, flutter, response and stability of structures, and addresses non-aeroelastic problems in other areas that are similar to aeroelastic problems. Topics covered include: The fundamentals of vibration theoryVibration of single degree of freedom and two degrees of freedom systemsElasticity in the form of an idealized spring elementRepetitive motion Flutter phenomenonClassical methods, Rayleigh-Ritz techniques, Galerkin's technique, influential coefficient methods, and finite element methodsUnsteady aerodynamics, and more 186 pp. Englisch.
