The passive elements were realized using thin-film microstrip lines. A detailed transformer balun synthesis procedure was develope…d. The realized passive baluns (¿rat-race¿ and transformer) show excellent commonmode rejection ratios exceeding 30 dB and low losses of 2.5 dB. On the active side, a low-gain, high-linearity single stage common-emitter LNA was realized. The selected topology allowed finer trade-off between linearity and sensitivity of the front-end compared to multi-stage LNA solutions. For the mixer, a low-voltage supply, high-linearity, low-noise double-balanced concept was employed. It uses AC-coupling between the two stages, which allowed an independent optimization of transconductance, core sizing, and bias. The transconductance was designed for best noise performance, while the core was chosen for maximum linearity.A high-fidelity two-channel receiver was realized using these circuit components, which achieved a performance comparable to the published state-of-the-art results in SiGe: Single sideband noise figure better than 16.5 dB, 1 dB compression point exceeding -12 dBm, while consuming moderate 82 mA DC current from a 1.6 V supply for both channels. 176 pp. Englisch.

The most efficient way to improve the performance of cauliflower varieties is to access large, diverse pools of genetic material of this crop. Therefore, the overall aims of this thesis have been to assess the phenotypic and genotypic diversity of a broad collection of genebank cauliflower accessions, as well as to perform association mapping and genomic prediction on this crop. This study evaluated the performance of 200 genebank accessions of cauliflower at two farming system (organic and conventional) and over three growing seasons and genotyped them by genotyping by sequencing approach (GBS) to infer the population structure and genetic diversity. Also, this study investigated the potential of different modern molecular breeding methods in cauliflower , association mapping and genomic selection. The findings laid out in this thesis show that GBS could be used effectively for several tasks in the commercial improvement of cauliflower in particular and in B. oleraceae in general, without the need for imputation of missing values. These tasks include genetic diversity analysis, marker trait association and genomic prediction. Also, the current thesis affirms that both association mapping and genomic prediction have the potential to accelerate the genetic gain in cauliflower breeding programs. In addition, several promising genetic materials (for high yield and stability) were found, which could be used as starting materials in cauliflower breeding programs, and especially for organic farming. 184 pp. Englisch.

This is the main driving force behind the intense investigation of nanowire and micro-columnar LEDs. In addition, because of the increased area of the MQW, the internal quantum efficiency may be improved by a reduction of the local carrier density, mitigating the efficiency droop. Besides, due to the reduced influence of thermal and lattice mismatch between the substrate and columns, dislocation-free GaN column arrays can be achieved on large area substrates.The main contribution of the present work is the controlled growth of GaN columns and core-shell LEDs by metal-organic vapor-phase expitaxy. The growth conditions which lead to vertical growth of N-polar and Ga-polar GaN columns are systematically investigated. The causes of the vertical growth are explained by surface processes under appropriate conditions for both polarities. Quantitative discussions of growth kinetics of GaN columns are an important feature in this work. The difficulties and the strategies of the MQW and p-GaN shell growth on high aspect ratio GaN columns are presented in detail. 186 pp. Englisch.

Prior to this study, observations of this author in some communities in the Dormaa Municipality and Dormaa East district showed that statutory and customary environmental governance institutions influenced each other to shape the ways different people acted on the natural environment. First, it explores a trade-off in the incentive effects induced by competitive funding schemes such as performance-budgeting or condi…tional grants. Using a game theoretical model, it is shown how efficiency enhancing effects and wasteful window-dressing incentives affect social welfare. The model derives important normative conclusions for the design of such funding schemes and discusses the advantages and drawbacks of different performance measures. Two empirical studies address the determinants and efficiency effects of intermunicipal cooperation among Hessian municipalities. Using survey data from Hessian municipalities, the author assesses how different municipal characteristics affect the occurrence of intermunicipal cooperation in labor-intensive administration services. The study places an emphasis on neighborhood specific factors. Using data from the municipal wastewater sector, the third study investigates efficiency effects of intermunicipal cooperation. The results from a nonparametric approach of efficiency analysis reveal that especially small municipalities may benefit from cooperation whereas medium-sized municipalities operate at efficient scale. It is likely, that X-inefficiencies and transaction costs outweigh cooperation gains from scale. 204 pp. Englisch.

This cumulative dissertation is the results of a research project at the DFG Resource Training Group 1703 ¿Resource Efficiency in Interorganizational Networks¿ and the Chair of Information Management at the University of Göttingen. It presents eight studies in the fields of adoption, value co-creation, and governance of inter-organizational IT, encompassing a rich data set of 19 interviews and 833 questionnaires. The theoretical and practical insights gained from the data analysis enable policy makers to effectively promote inter-organizational IT for the wood industry and allow practitioners in wood networks to effectively design their IT usage, IT processes, and IT governance. In microgravity, the liquid behavior is dominated by… capillary forces, which are used to position and redistribute liquid propellant in a desired way for the mission. The body forces occurring due to residual accelerations, which can be caused by spin during the ballistic flight phases, force the liquid to reorient towards a new equilibrium state of the free surface. Due to spin the liquid is driven away from the tank outlet and located along tank walls in partially filled tanks. To assure enough liquid fuel over the tank outlet, so-called Propellant Management Devices (PMD¿s), are employed. A PMD is a static, usually metal structure, which either provides a passage way for a liquid in microgravity or stores a certain amount of liquid at a desired location. Some PMD¿s are designed to be refillable in periods of microgravity due to openings in the outer housing or by a housing composed of perforated metallic sheets. These reservoirs are refilled in periods of compensated gravity in order to provide the required amount of liquid fuel for attitude control or other maneuverings. Relatively large disturbances, such as lateral accelerations and spin, can drive the liquid fuel out of the reservoir, resulting in malfunction of the device. During spilling, gas enters the device such that only a residual amount of liquid propellant can be kept in the reservoir. Moreover, the connection to the bulk liquid in the tank may be interrupted such that refilling of the reservoir is disrupted. Hence, a PMD with two parallel disks forming the inlet and a venting tube at the topmost point of the outer housing shall be designed such that its refillable structure is only filled with liquid without any gas or vapor being easily trapped during operations. 286 pp. Englisch.

The present book describes the preparation and characterization of appropriate catalyst systems for low temperature removal (150 - 400°C) and co…nversion of nitrogen oxides.The presented catalysts include commercially available activated carbon and zeolite supports, infiltrated with iron, copper, manganese and their oxides. The investigated catalysts adsorb and convert nitrogen dioxide almost completely and convert it quickly subsequently into the less toxic nitric oxide and nitrous oxide. Some eventually release nitrogen and oxygen, thus outperforming even the well-known Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst at low temperature.Stickoxide zählen zu den wichtigsten Umweltgiften und werden zu einem großen Anteil durch Dieselmotoren freigesetzt. The growth conditions which lead to vertical growth of N-polar and Ga-polar GaN columns are systematically investigated. The causes of the vertical growth are explained by surface processes under appropriate conditions for both polarities. Quantitative discussions of growth kinetics of GaN columns are an important feature in this work. Therefore, the overall aims of this thesis have been to assess the phenotypic and genotypic diversity of a broad collection of genebank cauliflower accessions, as well as to perform association mapping and genomic prediction on this crop.This study evaluated the performance of 200 genebank accessions of cauliflower at two farming system (organic and conventional) and over three growing seasons and genotyped them by genotyping by sequencing approach (GBS) to infer the population structure and genetic diversity. Also, this study investigated the potential of different modern molecular breeding methods in cauliflower , association mapping and genomic selection.The findings laid out in this thesis show that GBS could be used effectively for several tasks in the commercial improvement of cauliflower in particular and in B. oleraceae in general, without the need for imputation of missing values. These tasks include genetic diversity analysis, marker trait association and genomic prediction. Also, the current thesis affirms that both association mapping and genomic prediction have the potential to accelerate the genetic gain in cauliflower breeding programs. The model derives important normative conclusions for the design of such funding schemes and discusses the advantages and drawbacks of different performance measures. Two empirical studies address the determinants and efficiency effects of intermunicipal cooperation among Hessian municipalities. Using survey data from Hessian municipalities, the author assesses how different municipal characteristics affect the occurrence of intermunicipal cooperation in labor-intensive administration services. The study places an emphasis on neighborhood specific factors. Using data from the municipal wastewater sector, the third study investigates efficiency effects of intermunicipal cooperation. The results from a nonparametric approach of efficiency analysis reveal that especially small municipalities may benefit from cooperation whereas medium-sized municipalities operate at efficient scale. In microgravity, the liquid behavior is dominated by cap…illary forces, which are used to position and redistribute liquid propellant in a desired way for the mission. The body forces occurring due to residual accelerations, which can be caused by spin during the ballistic flight phases, force the liquid to reorient towards a new equilibrium state of the free surface. Due to spin the liquid is driven away from the tank outlet and located along tank walls in partially filled tanks. To assure enough liquid fuel over the tank outlet, so-called Propellant Management Devices (PMD's), are employed. A PMD is a static, usually metal structure, which either provides a passage way for a liquid in microgravity or stores a certain amount of liquid at a desired location. Some PMD's are designed to be refillable in periods of microgravity due to openings in the outer housing or by a housing composed of perforated metallic sheets. These reservoirs are refilled in periods of compensated gravity in order to provide the required amount of liquid fuel for attitude control or other maneuverings. Relatively large disturbances, such as lateral accelerations and spin, can drive the liquid fuel out of the reservoir, resulting in malfunction of the device. During spilling, gas enters the device such that only a residual amount of liquid propellant can be kept in the reservoir. Moreover, the connection to the bulk liquid in the tank may be interrupted such that refilling of the reservoir is disrupted. Die Photovoltaik (PV)… nimmt dabei eine wichtige Rolle ein, da ihr Potential das mit Abstand größte unter den erneuerbaren Energiequellen ist. Um dieses Potential zu nutzen wurden hohe Investitionen in die Grundlagenforschung und in die Entwicklung von PV-Industrietechnik getätigt. Auf diese Weise konnten seit dem Jahr 2000 die Kosten für PV-Strom auf deutschen Hausdächern von ca. 50 ct/kWh auf 11 ct/kWh gesenkt werden. Zur Realisierung dieses Fortschrittes wurden im Wesentlichen zwei Strategien verfolgt. Erstens, die Entwicklung von amorphen Dünnschichttechniken, welche sich durch einen extrem niedrigen Preis, aber auch durch einen geringeren Wirkungsgrad auszeichnen. Zweitens, die Entwicklung von möglichst reinen, kristallinen Siliziumwafern, welche zwar teuer sind, aber einen hohen Wirkungsgrad erreichen.Um die Vorteile der Dünnschichttechnik mit denen von kristallinen Siliziumwafern zu kombinieren, wird die ConCVD (Continuous Chemical-Vapor-Deposition) entwickelt, welche ein Bindeglied zwischen Laboranlage und Industrieanlage darstellt. Um diese Anlage weiterzuentwickeln, musste zunächst die Sicherheit und Zuverlässigkeit erhöht werden. Dazu wurden der Antriebsstrang, die Sensorik, die Wärmeisolation und die Materialeingenschaften des inneren Aufbaus optimiert. Nach diesem klassischen Anlagenbau, musste die Qualität der aufgewachsenen Schichten so weit erhöht werden, dass der Wirkungsgrad mit dem von standart Wafern konkurrieren kann. Hierzu wurde ein Grundlagenmodell entwickelt, welches die Gaszusammensetzung am Ort der Abscheidung und die daraus resultierende Kristallqualität vorhersagen kann. Dieser entscheidende Arbeitsschritt erforderte neben Halbleitercharakterisierung und Prozessoptimierung auch Kristallisationstheorie und Strömungssimulation.Durch das Zusammenspiel von Themengebieten aus der Ingenieurtechnik und der Grundlagenforschung, konnte die Leistungsfähigkeit der ConCVD deutlich gesteigert werden. Zum einen wurden die Schichthomogenität, die Abscheiderate und die Anlagenstabilität auf ein industrielles Niveau gehoben.
