INSCRIBED BY COLONIAL DAMES OF AMERICA! 204 p, Original blue cloth binding measuring 10 x 6.5", large 8vo. In fair condition. Boards are normally scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Head and tail of spine bumped; spine tanned with gilt lettering dulled. Boards toned around edges. Top edge of text-block gilt; fore & bottom edges deckled. Ownership bookplate found on front paste-down: "Maurice Robert des Marais." Inscription on front end-page: "Presented to S. L. Schoonmaker Esq., by the Pennsylvania Society of the Colonial Dames of America. April 1918." Light age-staining on frontispiece. Title page detached at head. Front gutter split at copyright page with some exposed binding mesh. Normal toning throughout text-block; at edges of leaves. Rear gutter cracked at page 204 with some binding mesh exposed. Binding intact. Please see photos. The Colonial Dames of America (CDA) is an American organization comprising women who descend from one or more ancestors who lived in British North America between 1607 and 1775, and who aided the colonies in public office, in military service, or in another acceptable capacity. The CDA is listed as an approved lineage society with the Hereditary Society Community of the United States of America. The National Headquarters is at Mount Vernon Hotel Museum in New York City, a building purchased by the CDA in 1924. Written by the Colonial Dames of America, the committee at that time consisted of Mrs. James Longacre, Mrs. William J Rose, Miss Anne Hollingsworth Wharton and others.
