In diesem Band wird das Manuskript zum ersten Mal ediert. Eine schwer zugängliche Anekdotensammlung (1795) des Autors,… die enge Verbindungen zum Wörterbuch aufweist, wird zusätzlich abgedruckt. Rodonis DRR ist in mehrfacher Hinsicht bedeutsam für die metalexikographische Forschung. Neu und spezifisch ist die Wahl des Korpus: Der von Rodoni bearbeitete Alltagswortschatz bleibt in vergleichbaren zeitgenössischen Revolutionswörterbüchern unberücksichtigt. Ungewöhnlich für diesen Wörterbuchtyp ist die Tatsache, daß Rodoni in vielfältiger Weise auf den »Dictionnaire de l'Académie«, das Wörterbuch des Ancien Régime, zurückgreift, um es im Sinne der Französischen Revolution zu regenerieren. Mit dem DRR liegt nach Le Soyeur (1661) und Hurtaut (1775) das dritte Homonymenwörterbuch in der französischen Lexikographiegeschichte überhaupt vor. Der erste Teil umfaßt mots qui se prononcent de même ou presque de même; mais qui s'écrivent différemment, selon leurs diverses significations. Der zweite Teil enthält mots qui s'écrivent et qui se prononcent de même; mais qui ont des significations bien différentes. Neuartig in der lexikographischen Landschaft des 18. Jahrhunderts ist die gezielte Verwendung von Anekdoten und Wortspielen in den Beispielen, um die Diskrepanz zwischen Aussprache und Graphie bzw. Ausdruck und Inhalt des Französischen zu pointieren. Darüber hinaus vermittelt das Wörterbuch ein anschauliches Bild des Alltagslebens der Französischen Revolution und ist deshalb auch für die mentalitätshistorische Forschung von hohem Stellenwert. Die ausführliche Einleitung gibt einen Überblick über die Entstehungsgeschichte des DRR, informiert eingehend über das Leben des Verfassers, eines ehemaligen Priesters und Genfer Sprachlehrers (1741-1806) italienischer Herkunft, und beschreibt linguistische wie inhaltliche Spezifika des Wörterbuchs. Bei der Ermittlung der biobibliographischen Fakten konsultierten die Herausgeberinnen rund ein Dutzend europäische Archive und Bibliotheken. Der Band wird durch ein Register der Personen, Figuren, Sachen, Begriffe, Orte und Institutionen erschlossen. Le 'Dictionnaire Républicain et Révolutionnaire' (DRR) de Jean Rodoni est édité pour la première fois dans ce volume. Celui-ci contient en outre une collection d'anecdotes (1795) en étroit rapport avec le dictionnaire ainsi qu'une introduction détaillée des éditrices. A la différence d'autres dictionnaires révolutionnaires contemporains, le DRR traite principalement du vocabulaire quotidien en se référant de multiples manières au 'Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française'. Le DRR est le troisième dictionnaire d'homonymes dans l'histoire de la lexicographie française. So grotesk diese Vorstellung einer 'territorialen Endlösung' anmutet, sie fand Anhänger in vielen europäischen Ländern. Eine 'Internationale des Antisemitismus' propagierte Ideen dieser Art bis in die Jahre des 'Dritten Reiches'. In dieser Zeit erhielt der Madagaskar-Gedanke eine neue Variante: Polen hoffte, im deutschen Windschatten zur Großmacht aufzusteigen und auch seine 'Judenfrage' lösen zu können; die polnische Regierung bemühte sich, Madagaskar als Auswanderungsgebiet für ihre jüdische Bevölkerung und als polnische Kolonie von Frankreich zu erhalten. Nach dem Sieg über Frankreich plante Hitlers Regime, die Insel in ein jüdisches Groß-Ghetto unter SS-Aufsicht zu verwandeln. Es charakterisiert die unterschwelligen Intentionen und die Realitätsferne des deutschen Madagaskar-Plans, wenn dieser nicht mehr blieb als ein kurzlebiges Projekt auf dem Weg in den Holocaust. Der Autor schildert umfassend die Geschichte dieser antisemitischen Wahnidee und geht den konkreten Plänen zu einer Judenunterbringung auf Madagaskar in ihrer internationalen Verflechtung nach.
