Het boek geeft richtlijnen voor zorgprofessionals, leraren en zelfs restaurantmanagers. Hans Becker (1942) was Voorzitter van de Raad van Bestuur van Stichting Humanitas. Hij werd benoemd tot hoogleraar Humanisering in de Zorg op de Universiteit voor Humanistiek in Utrecht. Hij is de auteur van onder andere "In the long run we are all dead" (Humanitas 1993) "Levenskunst op Leeftijd" (Eburon, 2003), "De ja-cultuur als instrument voor humanisering van de zorg" (Humanistics University Press 2006) en "Verboden af te blijven" (Eburon 2008). Recensie(s) Toen Hans Becker (1942) in 1992 aantrad als directeur van de Stichting Humanitas in Rotterdam, veranderde hij de organisatievorm, gericht op het naleven van protocollen en voorschriften, in een flexibeler structuur. Vanuit die visie ontwikkelde hij het seniorenrestaurant als een belangrijk onderdeel van de zorg. Niet alleen toegankelijk voor de bewoners, ook familie, kennissen, bejaarden uit de wijk en het personeel kunnen elkaar daar ontmoeten. Zo worden eenzaamheid en isolement voorkomen. Ook herinneringsmusea passen in die visie: ingericht met o.m. dagelijkse gebruiksvoorwerpen van jaren her leveren ze opnieuw gespreksstof. In dit boek wordt de opzet van de restaurants, doelstellingen, effecten, economische haalbaarheid, inzet van vrijwilligers, organisatie van evenementen enz. beschreven, maar ook informatie over de achtergronden, Humanitasfilosofie, reacties enz. zijn toegevoegd. Geïllustreerd met vele kleurenfoto's (waarop de auteur opvallend vaak voorkomt). Tekst en beelden op de bijgevoegde cd ondersteunen dit. Boeiend initiatief, al was meer cijfermateriaal een betere onderbouwing geweest: alleen jaarcijfers van 2002-2003 zijn volstrekt onvoldoende. Met literatuuropgave. Een rustdag in de week, het is misschien wel het grootste geschenk van de bijbel aan de Westerse cultuur. Maar wat is nu de religieuze betekenis van de sjabbat? Gaat het alleen om uitrusten om je weer op te laden voor het werk of is er meer aan de hand en is de mens er niet louter om te werken? Dat het om meer gaat dan om pietepeuterige regeltjes weten we allemaal wel, maar hoe kan deze dag ervaren worden als een heilige dag, een dag van vreugde om het bestaan? In dit boek ontdekt de lezer de onmetelijke betekenis van de feestdag sjabbat in het joodse leven en denken. Door zich te verdiepen in de uitlegtraditie, in de liturgie en in de gedragsregels - de halacha - wordt de lezer binnengeleid in de boeiende wereld van de joodse traditie. Zo wordt in de sjabbat in een flits zichtbaar hoe de messiaanse tijd is ?n is de sjabbat tegelijkertijd een dag waarop het messiaanse samenleven al kan worden ingeoefend. In een apart deel wordt een aantal Sjabbatsverhalen uit het Nieuwe Testament besproken. Omdat de meeste nieuwtestamentische verhalen zich afspelen in een volledig joodse omgeving en joods gedachtegoed uit die tijd weerspiegelen, proberen de auteurs de opgedane informatie en inzichten toe te passen op een aantal verhalen in het Nieuwe Testament. 'De Sjabbat, een dag apart' is in de eerste plaats bedoeld voor hen die ge?nteresseerd zijn in de bijbelse en rabbijnse gedachtenwereld en de daarin te vinden criteria voor menselijk gedrag en menselijke relaties. Door de uitgebreide verklaringen bij de rabbijnse teksten zal het ook diege-nen aanspreken die wel ge?nteresseerd zijn in de bijbel, maar nog geen kennis hebben gemaakt met de veelkleurige wereld van de joodse traditie. Het boek biedt tevens een 'leerwijzer', die de lezer wil uitdagen tot eigen Schriftuitleg. Deze 'leerwijzer' vormt ook een handreiking voor deelnemers aan bijbelgroepen en leerhuizen. Drs.
