Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good Plus. [SEX]. Show-n-Tell, Allucquere Rosanne Stone. "Web Affairs." Boston, MA: Eighteen Publications, 2005. English language. Hardcover. Text with full-color images. 13 x 9.5 x 0.5 in. 34 x 25 x 1 cm. 38 oz. pp. 142. Scratch on back cover. Top right corner of boards stubbed. Text clean. Very Good Plus. ISBN: 0918290023."Web Affairs is an artistâ??s documentation of an adult video web community. The artist, Show-n-tell, tells her story of being a voyeur and eventually becoming part of this community through a series of images and actual chat text. Initially shy, she asks men to show her their rooms. She finds naked men by their computers in their office spaces, living rooms and bedrooms. She collects images of their naked bodies juxtaposed with their surrounding computer equipment. Eventually she becomes a regular within the community and makes friends. People share their personal crises with her. One woman is living with her boyfriend but is having an affair with another man onlineâ?¦ A prematurely retired man is feeling lonely at home and tells her, â??The wife works from 7am to 5pm, comes home, watches TV and falls asleep, sex once a week on Saturday mornings. Now I play on the computer, a great mind gone to waste! I lost 20 lbs since June when I finally stopped drinking, but now I am addicted to these rooms.â? The main narrative, however, is told through Show-n-tellâ??s voice. She participates in the community both as an observer and a performer. After a while she has her own virtual sex show but as a married woman she too negotiates the limits of her explorations within virtual space with her real life partner. The electronic images gathered in chatrooms are transformed as photographic stills in the book. Because of the limits of the technology the image disintegrates into pixels which speak to a new sensibility in image making. The text also takes on an electronic accent. The members of virtual communities have transformed the English language by using acronyms that are incomprehensible to the outsider and yet are understood even by non-English speakers. This artistâ??s book is a documentation of Show-ntellâ??s navigation through erotic virtual space. But like most documentaries, the material has been electronically edited and graphically redesigned to dramatically communicate her story.".

Large 4to. (Approx 9.5 x 13"). 144pp. Illustrated throughout with color photographs. An artist's book project by a woman who entered the world of online sex out of curiosity and became a fascinated participant. "With the availability of cheaper computers, faster web access and small video cameras, virtual communities have come to include people of all ages, economic and educational backgrounds, and from all different parts of the world. These virtual rooms are where singles, couples, straights, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transvestites, crossdressers, fetishists. everyone, come to play. As a friend I met online said to me 'it's safe sex,' a safe way to have an online encounter. This book is the documentation of my time spent as a member of an online community where I captured pictures, recorded conversations and even personal confessions. I became part of a more open and liberated community where our fantasies empowered us. And I returned to 'real life' enriched, the distinction between real and virtual no longer so clear." Please note: Oversized volume: this book will require additional shipping for destinations outside the US; we will ship at cost. Laminated photographic boards. Light shelfwear; slight bumps to two corners. Very good.

Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Signed on the title page by Mike Mandel and Chantal Zakari. Hardcover. Photographically illustrated paper-covered boards; no dust jacket as issued. Photographs by Mike Mandel and Chantal Zakari. 272 pp., with 393 four-color and 9 black-and-white illustrations. 9-1/2 x 8-1/4 inches. New. From the publisher: "The State of Ata addresses the social themes that define contemporary Turkey. Specifically examining the imagery of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the country's revolutionary leader after World War I, the volume interweaves photographs, interviews, artists' interventions and archival imagery. The result is a complex visual exploration of the uses of Atatürk's imagery and the way in which it functions in contemporary Turkish society as a perceived link to Western culture, and as a symbol in opposition to the rise of the Islamist political movement. Mike Mandel and Chantal Zakari conceived The State of Ata as a collection of books within a book -- a photograph album, a volume of military portraits, a diary -- and the result is a unique project that will appeal not only to those fascinated by Turkish culture, but also to anyone interested in the popular representations of cult historical figures."
