Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Geophysical measurements, such as the lateral variations in seismic wave velocities that are imaged by seismic tomography, provide the strongest constraints on the structure of the Earth's deep interior. In order to interpret such measurements in terms of mineralogical/compositional models of the Earth's interior, data on the physical and chemical properties of minerals at high pressures and temperatures are essential. Knowledge of thermodynamics, phase equilibria, crystal chemistry, crystallography, rheology, diffusion and heat transport are required to characterize the structure and dynamics of the Earth's deep interior as well as the processes by which the Earth originally differentiated. Many experimental studies have been made possible only by a range of technical developments in the quest to achieve high pressures and temperatures in the laboratory. At the same time, analytical methods, including X-ray diffraction, a variety of spectroscopic techniques, electron microscopy, ultrasonic interferometry, and methods for rheological investigations have been developed and greatly improved. In recent years, major progress has been made also in the field of computational mineralogy whereby ab initio simulations are used to investigate the structural and dynamical properties of condensed matter at an atomistic level. This volume contains a broad range of contributions that typify and summarize recent progress in the areas of high-pressure mineral physics as well as associated technical developments.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a powerful and theoretically complex analytical tool. Basic 1H- and 13C-NMR Spectroscopy provides an introduction to the principles and applications of NMR spectroscopy. Whilst looking at the problems students encounter when using NMR spectroscopy, the author avoids the complicated mathematics that are applied within the field. Providing a rational description of the NMR phenomenon, this book is easy to read and is suitable for the undergraduate and graduate student in chemistry.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - This is the sixteenth annual volume of Progress in Heterocyclic Chemistry, and covers the literature published during 2003 on most of the important heterocyclic ring systems. This volume opens with two specialized reviews. The first covers 'Lamellarins: Isolation, activity and synthesis' a significant group of biologically active marine alkaloids and the second discusses 'Radical Additions to Pyridines, Quinolines and Isoquinolines'. The remaining chapters examine the recent literature on the common heterocycles in order of increasing ring size and the heteroatoms present. …

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - The objective of this book is to analyze the institutional barriers to implementing market-based climate policy, as well as to provide some opportunities to overcome them. The approach is that of institutional economics, with special emphasis on political transaction costs and path dependence.Instead of rejecting the neoclassical approach, this book uses it where fruitful and shows when and why it is necessary to employ a new or neo-institutionalist approach. The result is that equity is considered next to efficiency, that the evolution and possible lock-in of both formal and informal climate institutions are studied, and that attention is paid to the politics and law of economic instruments for climate policy, including some new empirical analyses. The research topics of this book include the set-up costs of a permit trading system, the risk that credit trading becomes locked-in, the potential legal problem of grandfathering in terms of actional subsidies under WTO law or state aid under EC law, and the changing attitudes of various European officials towards restricting the use of the Kyoto Mechanisms.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Our society keeps growing with a large number of complicated machines and systems, while we are spending our diverse lives. The number of aged people has been increasing in the society. It is more likely than ever that we are involved in dangers, accidents, crimes, and disasters. Securing and supporting our daily life, building reliable infrastructures against large scale disasters, and preventing unexpected human errors are crucial issues in our highly developed complex society. The systems theory can provide 'modelling, decision analysis and management for safety and security' as well as 'fault detection and reliable control for the design of fail-safe, fool-proof machines and systems'.If the human nature is analyzed and treated properly in the process of designing machines and systems, we could create safer, more reliable, and more intelligent machines and systems that can support our society and give us no anxiety and no uneasiness. 'Hybrid systems modelling human behaviours' and 'services for human' could give proper examples in this respect.'Robotics for safety and security', 'safety recovery systems', 'visual surveillance and monitoring', and 'transportation systems for safety and security', those will provide powerful tools for safe, secure, and reliable systems to achieve peaceful society.Key features:- Towards a new science and its practical applications- Analysis of humans contributing to system designs- Evaluations of systems in the aspects of sense of security and feeling of easiness. …

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - The complexity of the microbial population of the animal gastro-intestinal trac has been recognised long ago. However, thus far, investigations have been limited to a few major groups, considered to be dominating, and pathogens that are detrimental and may case diseases and concomitant financial losses in the production animal. Thanks to the latest developments, including improved micriological detection and sampling techniques, and the application of molecular tools to monitor the presence of specific strains in the intestine, our knowlede has increased rapidly in recent years. In addition, new approaches towards improving and/or stabilising animal health, are addressed, with special emphasis on probiotics, and also with regard to the use selected bacterial strains as vehicles for delivery of pharmaceutically active compounds to the muscosa. The book is unique in several respects, not only by its coverage of an extremely wide area in animal gut microbiology, but also by the fact that production animals such as fish and reindeer are included.Scope and treatment of the subject matter and the kind of information that can be found in the volume:Colonisation and development (succession), and mucosal surface composition of the normal microbial population flora in the healthy animal are addressed, whilst estensive information is given on diverse and dominating bacterial populations of different animal types. Reference is also made to those microbial groups considered to be of special benefit to the health and immune protection of the (young) animal bacteria. The development and application of models of the Gastro-Intestinal tract provides a solid basis for studying gut microbial interactions, whilst molecular approaches and the us of molecular tools to monitor the presence of specific strains in the intestine is treated in a comprehensive manner.- Wide coverage of different animal types and their gut microbial ecology- Extensive and partly new information on the major microbial groups associated with the animal gastro-intestinal tract- The book is unique and partly new information and up-to-date information proved in the chapters as a whole.…
