Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - The Elektronisches Buch edition of this title is Open Access and freely available to read online. Understanding and dismantling the deep-rooted structures of racism is essential for creating truly equitable societies. In recent years, initiatives aimed at Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (…DEI) and social justice have become more prevalent than ever. However, a critical issue persists: these efforts often fail to comprehensively address and confront anti-Black racism, particularly within the Black Atlantic region. Unmasking DEI: New Frameworks for Confronting Anti-Black Racism in the Black Atlantic by Christopher Stuart Taylor offers an incisive exploration of how historical and contemporary DEI and social justice initiatives have fallen short in tackling anti-Black racism. Drawing on extensive research and professional experience as a DEI practitioner, Taylor employs a critical race theoretical lens to reveal how these movements often perpetuate exclusion within inherently inequitable systems. Focusing particularly on Canada, the study dissects the myths surrounding national narratives like the Underground Railroad and exposes the exclusionary immigration policies that have historically marginalized Black individuals. By integrating Black Studies methodologies and non-Eurocentric frameworks, this volume challenges dominant scholarly perspectives and provides alternative epistemological models aimed at disrupting the status quo of colonial structures. This work is an invaluable resource for scholars, students, public policy professionals, and general readers interested in the intersections of DEI, social justice, and anti-Black racism. It offers practical insights and theoretical foundations for those committed to developing more effective and genuinely inclusive policies.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Helping to Light the Way: The Case for Civic, Geographic, Economic, and Interdisciplinary Social Studies Thinking addresses a long standing imbalance in social studies education. While the C3 Framework has energized classrooms and scholarship--particularly around historical thinking--far l…ess attention has been devoted to strengthening students' reasoning in civics, economics, and geography. This uneven focus has left teachers with fewer concrete models for cultivating disciplinary literacy and argumentation across the full spectrum of social studies. This book responds to that need with practical, classroom ready guidance. Each chapter offers thoughtfully designed activities and assessments that help K-12 educators deepen students' engagement with civic, economic, geographic, and interdisciplinary ways of thinking. Contributors translate disciplinary expectations into actionable strategies, providing clear steps that teachers, methods instructors, and pre service educators can implement immediately. Organized into four sections aligned with key disciplinary lenses, the book showcases approaches that illuminate how students can investigate public issues, analyze spatial patterns, reason about economic choices, and synthesize insights across fields. The result is a collection that supports teachers in meeting the ambitious aims of the C3 Framework while enriching students' capacity to understand and navigate an increasingly complex world. Helping to Light the Way equips educators with the tools, structure, and inspiration needed to expand disciplinary thinking beyond history and toward a more balanced, rigorous, and empowering vision of social studies learning.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Conversations about masculinity are evolving, yet the nuanced experiences of men navigating intersecting identities often remain overlooked. Among traditionally circumcised Xhosa men in rural Eastern Cape, South Africa, the interplay of physical disability and manhood challenges dominant narrativ…es, offering a profound lens through which to examine broader themes of embodiment, identity, and cultural tradition. Xhosa Masculinities and Manhood in South Africa: Exploring Disability, Embodiment and Identity provides an interdisciplinary exploration of what it means to be a traditionally initiated Xhosa man with a visible physical disability. This work addresses critical gaps in the literature by centring the body as a site of analysis and integrating African-centred theories of masculinities. Employing qualitative methods, including interviews, group discussions, and auto-ethnographic reflections, this unique study presents a rich tapestry of lived experiences. It challenges Western-centric paradigms of hegemonic masculinities and posits new theoretical frameworks grounded in African philosophy, sociology, and anthropology. Through its innovative approach, this volume contributes to the growing scholarship on intersectionality, embodiment, and identity in non-Western contexts. Offering invaluable insights for scholars in masculinities studies, disability studies, and African-centred philosophy, this work is an essential resource for those interested in understanding the complexity of manhood in contemporary cultural and sociological landscapes.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Democratizing Participation presents a critical examination of voter participation in the Citywide and Community Education Council (CCEC) elections of New York City, revealing deep disparities and systemic shortcomings in democratic engagement. Despite the 2021 expansion of voting rights to all p…ublic-school parents, all three elections held since then were marked by alarmingly low turnout. The parents of only three percent of the students voted, with Black, Hispanic, Native American, and economically disadvantaged communities significantly underrepresented. Drawing on interviews with a wide range of stakeholders, the study identifies key barriers to participation, such as awareness, access, relevance, affordability, and trust, and presents a comprehensive set of reform options. These range from administrative improvements to legislative changes, including bold considerations such as Board vs Mayoral control, participation grants, and sortition. By connecting the findings from New York to broader questions of democratic resilience, Democratizing Participation underscores the urgent need for institutional reform and inclusive governance. It is a compelling call to action for anyone invested in strengthening democracy through equitable participation.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Many startups are embracing sustainability for a variety of reasons; however, despite the growing interest of academics and practitioners in this phenomenon, and the benefits for several stakeholders involved, there is limited knowledge regarding the underlying dynamics of these ventures and, in…particular the nature of their sustainability demand, the behavioural characteristics of their entrepreneurs, the strategies for sustainability and the post-transition life of these ventures. This book sheds new light on these issues and seeks to improve our collective understanding of these entrepreneurial initiatives pursuing sustainability. By using a bibliometric approach to systematic literature reviews, the editors shed new light on the relationship between sustainability, entrepreneurial initiatives, and innovation, and provide new knowledge on this emerging topic. An in-depth exploration of the sustainability demand of startups and the behavioural characteristics of their entrepreneurs by focusing on the European context, Troise and Rizzo analyse the main stages and theories used in literature to explain corporate transitions toward sustainability and explores the application of the dynamic capabilities theory. By applying the three dimensions of this theory - i.e. sensing, acquiring, and transforming - the editors examined the key strategies across these dimensions to explain how companies embrace sustainability. The series Emerald Studies in Sustainable Innovation Management aims at exploring the advancements of innovation management in turbulent times with a special attention to the transition towards a sustainable economy. The practice of innovation management is evolving rapidly as a consequence of positive phenomena such as digitalization and the green transition and negative ones such as crises and global emergencies.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - How should we understand the ideological foundations of a state that is simultaneously socialist, market-driven, digitally empowered, and globally influential Toward a 'Constitutional' Socialist State offers a bold, multidimensional exploration of China's contemporary political evolution, reveali…ng how competing legacies - revolutionary Marxism, constitutionalist aspirations, nationalist rhetoric, and rapid technological transformation - shape its current path. Bringing together insights from political philosophy, economics, digital governance, and history, the book traces the evolving tensions between early Communist ideals and today's institutional realities. Rather than offering a closed or definitive model, it approaches these themes with an open and multidimensional analytical framework that reflects the complexity of the subject, inviting readers to grapple with ideas still taking shape. Engaging with themes of international relations, social imperialis, Marxist economic thought and the relationship between digital technology and the State, the author advances the provocative concept of constitutional socialism, arguing that safeguarding basic rights is essential to long-term political legitimacy. At its core is the provocative idea of constitutional socialism - the argument that China's long-term legitimacy hinges on protecting fundamental rights. Wide-ranging, incisive, and rigorously argued, this work provides scholars, practitioners, and globally engaged readers with a fresh conceptual toolkit for assessing China's future trajectory. At a time when the world watches China with growing urgency, this book offers a rare intellectual lens on the ideological debates and structural dilemmas that will shape the century ahead.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - In the wake of unprecedented societal and political backlash manifesting in an online and offline hate speech, Lebanese LGBTQI individuals and organisations have used social media to counter LGBTQI-phobia. Addressing a gap in research on LGBTQI social media activism in Lebanon, Antoine Badaoui dr…aws attention to the social media affordances of visibility and association in the work of non-profit organisations. Investigating how these affordances of social media shape the use of said platforms, and are crucial to understanding LGBTQI behaviour online, Badaoui shows how in Lebanon LGBTQI individuals use social media to network with like-minded people and acquire knowledge away from offline LGBTQI-phobia. Employing rich qualitative research, the book tells the story of how Lebanese LGBTQI non-profits leverage the affordances of visibility and association to foreground sexual minorities' rights in a LGBTQI-phobic society. Questioning whether the organisations' online strategies meet the needs of LGBTQI individuals, the author shows how the organisations are mindful of the sexual minorities' individual safety, adopting a 'collective visibility/individual invisibility' social media strategy to advocate for the sexual minorities' wellbeing without jeopardising their safety. Addressing themes of 'counter-surveillance' and 'counter-invisibility' to challenge the hegemonic socio-political structures that have long put these individuals under scrutiny, the study also brings to life how Lebanese organisations engage with both LGBTQI transnational and regional activisms. Providing knowledge on sexual minorities' social media activism beyond the Euro-American digital realm, this text is valuable for researchers, students, and LGBTQI non-profits and activists working in the Arab world and in similar LGBTQI-phobic contexts.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Theoretical Perspectives on Learning and Teaching showcases the ways in which theories, from education and beyond, have been used by researchers who have recently completed their doctoral studies in education. The studies are contextualised across different UK education sectors from primary educa…tion to higher education. Engaging with theory is one of the key criteria for assessing doctoral studies across disciplines. Research shows that recent doctoral graduates often struggle to transition from being researchers to publishing in academic books and journals. This collection, featuring chapters from thirteen recent education doctoral researchers, provides an opportunity for recent graduates to showcase how they engaged with theory in their doctoral studies. Each chapter highlights how different theories were applied or developed in their research across various educational sectors and explores how theory informed or was generated by their studies, utilizing diverse methods such as narrative inquiry, mixed methods research, creative methods, evaluation techniques, and ethnographic methods. Readers who are doctoral researchers themselves and their supervisors will find the chapters stimulate thinking and discussion about the diverse range of theories that can be drawn upon to inform research at different stages of the study, from design to analysis. The focus on 'lessons from doctoral studies' will benefit readers who are postgraduate researchers and their supervisors, as well as the wider education research community.
