About the book: The temples at Mahabalipuram and strange monuments as well as all those that have been discovered in other places and contain similar inscriptions can therefore be considered as the work of the Pallavas. These were not built of stones placed above another, but were simply rocks that the sculptor's chisel had worked on either to give them the external form of a building, or to excavate in them subterranean chambers. The subject of the book is very interesting and the author has preserved these sculptors from the monument, which he considers his noble attempt to put the things in right perspective. These sculptures are beautiful because they are cut in the rocks which draw the attention of the archaeologists. Both the volume of the books are extensive study of the antiquities of the dynasty of Nandivarman constitutes an essential part of the work. The first volume covers Pallava Antiquities belong to the period between A.D. 600 to 750 and the second volume covers between A.D. 750 to 900. The book is the product of extensive study of Dravidian architecture. So both the parts of the book are immensely beneficial for the readers, analyst and researchers. About the author:- Gabriel Jouveau-Dubreuil (1885-1945) was a French archaeologist who specialized in Southern India, who conducted extensive studies on the archaeology, monuments and sculptors of Southern India and discovered engraved documents. He was the first discoverer of artifacts at Nagarjunakonda in Andhra Pradesh in 1926, before systematic digging was taken over by A. H. Longhurst in 1927. He published both in French and English. Having received a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Paris, he turned his attention to Indology and submitted a further thesis on southern Indian iconography. He subsequently taught science at the Colonial College, Pondicherry, where he was able to pursue his enquiries into Indian architecture and art. His investigations were published in such journals as Jour 42.

ABOUT THE BOOK: A scarce little travel guide, which despite the "overland" in its title, describes a route by sea from England to China, with stops at Gibraltar, Malta, Egypt, India, Ceylon, Hong Kong, and Singapore, before finally reaching Shanghai. Information about the places visited is generally descriptive, especially the natural scenery. Recommended attractions of each place are also mentioned with a few facts about them. However, it does not include detailed information for tourists on food and lodging, etc. The book states that among the fellow passengers are the military men, civilians and elderly men with their matronly partners. Their feelings are also elaborated aptly. At last, once the journey ends, the author gives genuine advice that is necessary for a pleasant trip. It includes carrying "Handbook of Information," light luggage with destination label affixed to it, donning suitable clothing, carrying a pocket telescope and a good map of India, and taking only sovereigns. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: The book was first published by Thomas Nelson and Sons. Thomas Nelson is a publishing firm that began in West Bow, Edinburgh, Scotland in 1798 as the namesake of its founder. It is a subsidiary of Harper Collins, the publishing unit of News Corp. In Canada, the Nelson imprint is used for educational publishing. In the United Kingdom, it was a mainstream publisher until the late 20th century, and later became part of the educational imprint Nelson Thornes. Thomas Nelson, Sr. founded the shop that bore his name in Edinburgh in 1798, originally as a secondhand bookshop at 2 West Bow, recognizing a ready market for inexpensive, standard editions of noncopyright works which he attempted to satisfy by publishing reprints of classics. In 1835, the shop became a company, first as Thomas Nelson & Son when William joined, and in 1839, it became Thomas Nelson & Sons when Thomas Jr. entered the business.
