Paperback. Condizione: Good. NAFTA. The WTO. Trade agreements are supposed to benefit us all. Instead, in the decade since they've been in effect, life has become much worse for millions of working Americans. In Shafted, working people-family farmers and farmworkers, fishermen and seamstresses-describe the ruin free trade has brought to them, their families, and their towns. These aren't theorists; these are the voices of experience. And they're telling us, clearly and eloquently, that it's time to stop the madness that enriches a few corporations at the cost of justice, human rights, community, family, and the dignity of work and of workers.…

Hardback. Condizione: Good. Foreword by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader GinsburgIn Belva Lockwood: The Woman Who Would Be President, prize-winning legal historian Jill Norgren recounts, for the first time, the life story of one of the nineteenth century's most surprising and accomplished advocates for women's rights. As Norgren shows, Lockwood was fearless in confronting the male establishment, commanding the attention of presidents, members of Congress, influential writers, and everyday Americans. Obscured for too long in the historical shadow of her longtime colleague, Susan B. Anthony, Lockwood steps into the limelight at last in this engaging new biography.Born on a farm in upstate New York in 1830, Lockwood married young and reluctantly became a farmer's wife. After her husband's premature death, however, she earned a college degree, became a teacher, and moved to Washington, DC with plans to become an attorney-an occupation all but closed to women. Not only did she become one of the first female attorneys in the U.S., but in 1879 became the first woman ever allowed to practice at the bar of the Supreme Court. In 1884 Lockwood continued her trailblazing ways as the first woman to run a full campaign for the U.S. Presidency. She ran for President again in 1888. Although her candidacies were unsuccessful (as she knew they would be), Lockwood demonstrated that women could compete with men in the political arena. After these campaigns she worked tirelessly on behalf of the Universal Peace Union, hoping, until her death in 1917, that she, or the organization, would win the Nobel Peace Prize.Belva Lockwood deserves to be far better known. As Norgren notes, it is likely that Lockwood would be widely recognized today as a feminist pioneer if most of her personal papers had not been destroyed after her death. Fortunately for readers, Norgren shares much of her subject's tenacity and she has ensured Lockwood's rightful place in history with this meticulously researched and beautifully written book.…

Paperback. Condizione: Good. Unlike other self-help books, Discover Your Dragon combines the ancient teachings of the Shaolin Temple with actionable, real-world advice tailored to modern challenges. Through powerful storytelling and step-by-step guidance, readers will learn how to transform their struggles into strength and their dreams into reality. Discover Your Dragon is more than a book-- it' s a transformational guide to building strength, character, and self-belief. Written by Donald Hyun Kiolbassa, a gold-medalist martial artist, CPA, lawyer, leader of a world-renowned martial arts team, and Mortal Kombat motion capture artist, this book distills the ancient teachings of the Shaolin Temple into five practical steps that empower young readers, parents, and educators alike: 1) HARD WORK, 2) HEALTH, 3) BALANCE, 4) SKILLS and 5) GOALS. These steps are simple but not easy. They require dedication, but they yield extraordinary results-- helping readers unlock their inner dragon, embrace self-discipline, and navigate the challenges of life with confidence and purpose. This book matters now as bullying is an epidemic. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 1 in 5 students report being bullied during the school year, with lasting impacts on mental health, academic performance, and self-esteem. Many children feel powerless against the cycle of negativity, but this book offers a proven path forward. Using real-life lessons learned at the legendary Shaolin Temple, Donald Hyun Kiolbassa equips readers with tools to: Build resilience and self- confidence to stand tall against bullying. Foster physical and mental health for long-term well- being. Develop a disciplined mindset that helps achieve personal and academic goals. Embrace balance and harmony in their daily lives. This isn' t just a book for overcoming adversity-- it' s a blueprint for preventing it entirely by teaching how to lead with strength, kindness, and self- assurance. Perfect for: parents looking for tools to help their children build self-confidence, discipline, and purpose; teachers searching for classroom resources to address bullying and empower students; and young adults ready to take the first steps toward unlocking their potential and living the victorious life.…
