Original Wraps. Condizione: Poor. First Edition. Philadelphia: no date but believed 1817. Published by George W. Mentz. Saddle stitched paper. No covers, believed as issued. 32 pages including front cover and back cover. No pages appear to be missing from the interior, although I am unsure if any are missing from the rear. OCLC details for this almanac mentions 36 pages. With a woodcut illustration of the anatomy of a man's body on relation to the constellations and the zodiac. Twelve months of astronomical almanac present, along with several short articles, one relating a robbery by a highwayman (and his subsequent fate), an article on poverty, a cure for the bite of a mad dog, an article on Rachel Baker who prays in her sleep, among others. In POOR condition with heavy tattering to the extremities, folding and creasing to the corners, some ink dots to the front cover (along with a few letters in script) and a rectangular piece CUT AND MISSING from the front cover beneath the title. Pages are darkened but still readable. The almanac is still intact with no loose pages. Overall, a seemingly scarce almanac, in POOR condition. Photos available upon request. Not in Evans.

Loss of leather on front board, exposed binding. Edges of text-block speckled red (dulled). Pencil marginalia & old-hand ink marginalia on front & rear end-pages. Water or tea dampness staining found in gutters through front end-page through about page 100. Most of text-block exhibits foxing to some degree. Some instances of age-staining. Binding intact. SECOND EDITION, ENLARGED AND IMPROVED. The first edition of this form book was issued in 1822, with the title beginning: "Precedents for the Use of Justices of the Peace . " Later editions had the title: "Getz's Forms . " George Getz (1789-1853) was also the proprietor of "The Berks and Schuylkill Journal," and served as the mayor of Reading from 1849 until his death. Original coarse cloth-backed pictorial boards. 72 pages, collated complete. Contemporary pencil inscription "Mary White Her Book / Bought in the year of our lord / one thousand eight hundred," repeated twice. Binding with edgewear, soil and staining; a bit of scuffing to front board. Leaves with light foxing, some soil. A solid copy.

With a stunning, colorful, elaborate fraktur bookplate by Elizabeth Lefewer dated 1832 in red, yellow, green and black depicting two birds (one with wings spread) perched on a flower with multiple petals and stem, the fraktur in red, green and blue, red corners and borders of rope design in two colors, and six lines of religious text in red. Foxing; rubbing to covers. Very Good with a bright, attractive fraktur bookplate.
