Original Wraps. Condizione: Poor. First Edition. Philadelphia: no date but believed 1817. Published by George W. Mentz. Saddle stitched paper. No covers, believed as issued. 32 pages including front cover and back cover. No pages appear to be missing from the interior, although I am unsure if any are missing from the rear. OCLC details for this almanac mentions 36 pages. With a woodcut illustration of the anatomy of a man's body on relation to the constellations and the zodiac. Twelve months of astronomical almanac present, along with several short articles, one relating a robbery by a highwayman (and his subsequent fate), an article on poverty, a cure for the bite of a mad dog, an article on Rachel Baker who prays in her sleep, among others. In POOR condition with heavy tattering to the extremities, folding and creasing to the corners, some ink dots to the front cover (along with a few letters in script) and a rectangular piece CUT AND MISSING from the front cover beneath the title. Pages are darkened but still readable. The almanac is still intact with no loose pages. Overall, a seemingly scarce almanac, in POOR condition. Photos available upon request. Not in Evans.

Water or tea dampness staining found in gutters through front end-page through about page 100. Most of text-block exhibits foxing to some degree. Some instances of age-staining. Binding intact. A SPECIMEN OF DIVINE TRUTHS was first published in Dutch in 1706, with the first in English appearing in 1765. The title was published in many places across the US; the present copy is quite a scarce edition, with no holdings located in OCLC. 12mo. 5.5'' x 3.25''. Original coarse cloth-backed pictorial boards. 72 pages, collated complete. Contemporary pencil inscription "Mary White Her Book / Bought in the year of our lord / one thousand eight hundred," repeated twice. Binding with edgewear, soil and staining; a bit of scuffing to front board. Leaves with light foxing, some soil. A solid copy.
