According to the United Nations (2014), there remain extreme differences in maternal mortality among countries with almost one third of global deaths concentrated in India (17%) and Nigeria (14%); with Sierra Leone being the Country with the highest MMR (1100 per 100,000 live births) while Belarus has the lowest (1 per 100,000 live births). Namibia is one of the affected sub-Saharan countries. It is estimated that, everyday a woman dies in Namibia due to complications related to either pregnancy or childbirth. The Maternal Mortality ratio has increased from 225 per 100,000 live births in 1992 to 271 per 100,000 live births in 2000 and 449 per 100,000 live births in 2007/2008 (WHO, 2009). This data has put the Country on a balance scale to initiate and develop policies and programs for the acceleration of the reduction of MMR against set targets and reverse the trends to achieve 75% reduction in accordance with the MDG5 target. The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze policies, strategies and programs that were developed in Namibia to meet the global and country targets for the attainment of the MDG5.Also to evaluate the progress made ,discuss challenges and identify way forwards for local and global response. These issues become particularly problematic on large grids since the existing solutions, if they work at all for unstructured grids, do not scale well. In this paper I will present two innovative approaches to visualization in large, unstructured grids. The first approach was developed by Max Langbein, Gerik Scheuermann and Xavier Tricoche. It makes use of cell adjacency and a complete adaptive k-d tree and utilizes ray shooting to locate points for visualization. The second approach was developed by Christoph Garth and Kenneth I. Joy. They use an innovative data structure, the celltree which is based on a bounding interval hierarchy, in order to narrow down the number of cells that conceivably contain points for visualization. Both approaches present memoryecient and performant solutions for visualizing large unstructured grids, the approach of Garth and Joy further focuses on numerical robustness. The main difference between the two papers is that the work of Garth and Joy designs a data structure based on points and attempts to narrow down the number of cell candidates and subsequently performs a simple check for inclusion, whereas in the work of Langbein et al. the data structure design is based on the cells and uses ray tracing after making an educated guess for a cell close to the searched point. Science Fiction offers writers a wide range of potential themes to explore and is thus a very complex genre. While often being considered male oriented, at least during the Feminist Movement in the 1960s, female authors found their way into the genre and raised questions about gender roles, political inequality and sexuality within their works. Among those female writers was Ursula K. Le Guin who gained wide recognition for her writing and is today regarded one of the most influential science-fiction and fantasy author of the twentieth century. Asscociated with feminist tendencies in her works, her most famous novel referred to be feminist science fiction is 'The Left Hand of Darkness' in which she imagined an androgynous society in order to investigate what society would be if sex did not matter. But also many other of her works have received attention from critics interested in gender and feminism. In this paper I intend to analyse and discuss the depiction of gender and the realisation of feminist aspects in Le Guin's novel 'The Dispossessed: An ambiguous Utopia'. The novel won several important literary awards such as the Hugo and the Nebula and gained a lot of respect among critics for its great literary qualities and its extensive exploration of political ideas and social themes, including for example anarchism, capitalism and socialism. It is set on the fictional planets Urras and Anarres which inhabit two contrasting societies, one capitalist and class oriented and the other one following the principles of anarchism, avoiding any form of social hierarchy among its population. Anarres ¿ apparently the utopian planet in Le Guin's work, is often called a feminist utopia for its conception of gender. However, Le Guin has been highly criticised from feminist for several problematic issues in her approach of sexual politics in the novel. It seems like a natural choice to dig for data in the rich pool of data generated by each customer himself by assessing their respective actions and content generated, especially on social media websites. The available data there is much more user specific than general purchasing behaviors of user groups and can potentially lead to very precise predictions about what the user is interested in and will buy.This paper first gives a brief overview over the development and research conducted on social media recommendation and behavior of online shoppers in general. Then the work of Y. Zhang and M. Pennacchiotti is presented. Finally, several possibilities for subsequent research based on previous work and the work of Zhang and Pennacchiotti are presented.
